ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [ZnCl(2)(C(14)H(14)N(4))](n), contains a Zn(II) ion situated on a twofold rotation axis and one-half of a 1-{4-[(1H-imidazol-1-yl)meth-yl]benz-yl}-1H-imidazole (L) ligand with the benzene ring situated on an inversion center. The Zn(II) ion is coordinated by two chloride anions and two N atoms from two L ligands in a distorted tetra-hedral geometry. The L ligands bridge ZnCl(2) fragments into polymeric chains parallel to [20-1].

Project description:In the title complex, {[CdI(2)(C(11)H(10)N(4))]·C(3)H(7)NO}(n), the Cd(II) ion is four-coordinated by two N atoms from two 1-[(1H-benzimidazol-1-yl)meth-yl]-1H-imidazole (bmi) ligands and by two terminal I(-) anions in a distorted tetra-hedral geometry. One of the two I(-) anions is disordered over two sets of sites, with refined occupancies of 0.66?(5) and 0.34?(5). The Cd(II) ions are bridged by bmi ligands, leading to the formation of a chain along [001]. Dimethyl-formamide solvent mol-ecules are located between these chains. Classical N-H?O hydrogen bonding between the bmi ligands and the solvent mol-ecules leads to a consolidation of the structure.

Monoclinic polymorph of 4-[(1H-benz-imidazol-1-yl)meth-yl]benzoic acid.

Project description:Three polymorphs of the title compound, C(15)H(12)N(2)O(2), were obtained accidentally as single crystals in the hydro-thermal reaction of the title compound with manganese bromide in the presence of N,N'-dimethyl-formamide at 373?K. Here we report the structure of the first polymorph. The benzimidazole ring is almost planar, the maximum deviation from the mean plane being 0.016?(1)?Å. The benzimidazole and benzene rings are approximately perpendicular, making a dihedral angle 85.56?(7)°, which is a reflection of the axial rotation of the flexible benzimidazolyl arm. In the crystal, adjacent mol-ecules are connected through O-H?N hydrogen bonds into a chain along [100], and neighboring chains are further linked by via weak C-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions, forming a two-dimensional network.

In the crystal, these polymer chains are linked via N-H?N hydrogen bonds, forming a two-dimensional network.
