ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(19)H(17)NO(3), was synthesized using a tandem annulation reaction between 4-benzoyl-1H-pyrrole-2-carbaldehyde and (E)-ethyl 4-bromo-but-2-enoate under mild conditions. The dihedral angle between the benzene ring and the indolizine ring system is 41.73?(4)°.

The two ring systems are not coplanar, the dihedral angle between the two being 54.26?(7)°. In the crystal, inversion dimers are formed by weak C-H?O interactions. These dimeric groups are further extended to form a regular two-dimensional structure by additional weak C-H?O inter-actions.

Project description:The title compound, C(10)H(13)NO(3), was obtained as a by-product of the aldolization reaction of furo[3,4-c]pyridin-3(1H)-one with thio-phene-2-carboxaldehyde. The substituents on the pyridine ring are nearly coplanar, with an 8.1?(2)° rotation of the hydroxmethyl group from this plane. The mol-ecules assemble in the crystal structure as chains via O-H?N hydrogen bonding between the pyridine N atom and a neighbouring hydroxy-methyl OH group.
