3-(Amino-carbon-yl)pyridinium diaqua-bis-(pyridine-2,6-dicarboxyl-ato)bis-muthate(III) monohydrate.

ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the ionic title compound, (C(6)H(7)N(2)O)[Bi(C(7)H(3)NO(4))(2)(H(2)O)(2)]·H(2)O or (acpyH)[Bi(pydc)(2)(H(2)O)(2)]·H(2)O, contains an [Bi(pydc)(2)(H(2)O)(2)](-) anion (where pydcH(2) is pyridine-2,6-dicarb-oxy-lic acid), a protonated 3-(amino-carbon-yl)pyridine as counter-ion, (acpyH)(+), and one uncoordinated water mol-ecule. The anion is an eight-coordinate complex with a square-anti-prismatic geometry around the Bi(III) atom. In the crystal, extensive O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen bonds, as well as ion pairing, C=O?? inter-actions [O?centroid distance = 3.583?(5)?Å], ?-? stacking [centroid-centroid distance = 3.864?(3)?Å], and C-H?? and C-H?O inter-actions, play an important role in the formation and stabilization of the three-dimensional supra-molecular structure.

Project description:The title compound, {(C(4)H(12)N(2))[Bi(2)(C(7)H(3)NO(4))(4)(H(2)O)]·H(2)O}(n) or {(pipzH(2))[Bi(2)(pydc)(4)(H(2)O)]·H(2)O}(n), where pydcH(2) is pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid and pipz is piperazine, was obtained by reaction of Bi(NO(3))(3)·5H(2)O with (pipzH(2))(pydc-H)(2)·3H(2)O in a 1:2 molar ratio in aqueous solution. There are two independent Bi(III) atoms in the structure, one of which is eight-coordinate with a distorted bicapped trigonal-prismatic geometry, and another which is nine-coordinate with a distorted tricapped trigonal-prismatic geometry. The carboxyl-ate groups of the (pydc)(2-) ligands link dinuclear [Bi(2)(C(7)H(3)NO(4))(4)(H(2)O)](2-) units into one-dimensional coordin-ation polymers. The pipzH(2) (2+) cations (site symmetry ) and non-coordinated water mol-ecules lie between these polymers, forming N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds to the O atoms of the carboxylate groups.

Project description:In the centrosymmetric dinuclear complex anion of the title compound, (C(5)H(8)N(3))(2)[Bi(2)(C(7)H(3)NO(4))(4)(H(2)O)(2)]·4H(2)O, the Bi(III) atom is eight-coordinated in an N(2)O(6) environment and has a distorted bicapped trigonal-prismatic coordination environment. Extensive inter-molecular O-H⋯O, N-H⋯O and weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds lead to the stability of the crystal structure. Inter-actions between one C-H group of the 2,3-diamino-pyridinium [(2,3-dapyH)(+)] cation and the aromatic ring of the pyridine-2,6-dicarboxyl-ate (pydc) ligand (C-H⋯centroid distance = 2.78 Å) and π-π inter-actions between the (2,3-dapyH)(+) cations and between the (2,3-dapyH)(+) cation and the pydc ligand [centroid-centroid distances = 3.489 (5) and 3.694 (5) Å] are observed.

The O-Cr-O-C torsion angles between the two planes of the (hypydc)(2-) fragments [-99.81?(17) and 97.77?(17)°] indicate that these two units are almost perpendicular to one another. In the crystal structure, extensive O-H?O, N-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds with D?A distances ranging from 2.560?(2) to 3.279?(3)?Å, ion pairing, C-O?? [O?? = 3.166?(2)?Å] and ?-? stacking inter-actions between (hypydc)(2-) and (pydaH)(+) rings [with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.3353?(14)?Å] contribute to the formation of a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure.

This compound is composed of an anionic complex, [Cr(pydc)(2)](-), protonated 4,4'-bipyridine as a counter-ion, (4,4'-bipyH)(+), and four uncoordinated water mol-ecules. The anion is a six-coordinate complex with a distorted octa-hedral geometry around the Cr(III) atom, formed by two tridentate pyridine-2,6-dicarboxyl-ate, pydc(2-), groups. Inter-molecular O-H⋯O, N-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, and C-O⋯π stacking inter-actions (with distances of 3.3390 (13) and 3.4575 (13) Å) connect the various components into a supra-molecular structure.
