N'-[(E)-4-Benz-yloxy-2-hy-droxy-benzyl-idene]benzohydrazide.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(21)H(18)N(2)O(3), exists in the E conformation with respect to the azomethane C=N double bond. The central benzene ring is almost coplanar with one of the substituent benzene rings [dihedral angle = 1.74 (5)°] and is approximately orthogonal to the other benzene ring of the mol-ecule [dihedral angle = 86.61 (7)°]. An intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bond occurs. The crystal packing is dominated by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, which lead to an infinite chain running parallel to [010].

Project description:The title compound, C(21)H(17)N(3)O(5)·H(2)O, exists in the keto form with an E conformation with respect to the azomethine double bond. The twist angles between the aromatic rings are in the range 4.67 (10)-17.54 (10)°. A water mol-ecule of solvation is present in the lattice. A conventional intra-molecular O-H⋯N hydrogen bond increases the rigidity of the mol-ecule. Inter-molecular O-H⋯O, N-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions establish a supra-molecular linkage among the mol-ecules in the crystal structure. There are also C-H⋯π inter-actions present.

Project description:The title mol-ecule, C(14)H(11)N(3)O(4), is approximately planar, with an inter-planar angle between the two benzene rings of 5.8?(2)°. In the crystal, four mol-ecules are linked by an R(4) (4)(12) motif with pairs of strong O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen bonds. The motif is situated about the crystallographic centres of symmetry and it is composed of two pairs of parallel mol-ecules. This quadruplet of mol-ecules is further extended by symmetry-equivalent hydrogen bonds to form layers parallel to the (10) plane. In addition to the hydrogen bonds, there is also a weak ?-? inter-action between the benzene rings.
