ABSTRACT: The title compound, [Ni(C4H8N3)2]·CH3OH, contains two independent Ni(II) atoms, each located on an inversion center and coordinated by four N atoms from two 1-[(1-imino-eth-yl)imino]-eth-yl}aza-nide ligands in a square-planar geometry. N-H?N, N-H?O and O-H?N hydrogen bonds link the complex mol-ecules and methanol solvent mol-ecules into a corrugated layer parallel to (001).

Project description:The mol-ecular structure of the title complex, [Ni2(C11H13NO3)2]·CH3OH, contains two Ni(II) atoms and two doubly deprotonated 6-meth-oxy-2-{[(3-oxidoprop-yl)imino]-meth-yl}phenolate ligands. The Ni(II) atoms are each four-coordinated in a distorted square-planar geometry by three O atoms and one N atom derived from the phenolate ligands. The solvent mol-ecule is linked to the complex mol-ecule by two O-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The title compound, [Ni(C14H12BrN2O)2][Ni(C14H13BrN2O)2](ClO4)2·CH3OH consists of two mononuclear ([Ni(HL)2]2+ and [NiL2]) complex mol-ecules linked by strong hydrogen bonding [O⋯O separations of only 2.430 (5) Å], which is the shortest reported to date for such species. In one of the complexes, both the coordinated phen-oxy groups retain their protons and thus this is the cationic equivalent species of the other complex where both coordinated phen-oxy groups are deprotonated. In addition, perchlorate anions are present for charge balance, as well as methanol solvate mol-ecules. For the neutral NiL2 complex, each 2-ethyl-amine-pyridine arm is disordered over two equivalent conformations with occupancies of 0.750 (8):0.250 (8). The perchlorate anion is disordered over two equivalent conformations with occupancies of 0.602 (8):0.398 (8). The perchlorate ions also link to the H atoms on the methanol methyl and hydroxyl groups. These inter-actions link the moieties into a complex three-dimensional array. The crystal studied was refined as a two-component twin.

In both mol-ecules, the Ni(II) ion is coordinated by two O and two N atoms from two Schiff base ligands in an approximate square-planar geometry. Inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds link three mol-ecules into centrosymmetric trimer. The crystal packing exhibits weak inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds and voids of 37?Å(3).

Each Cu(II) atom is four-coordinated by two phenolate O and two imine N atoms from two symmetry-related Schiff base 2-{[2-(isopropyl-aza-nium-yl)eth-yl]imino-meth-yl}-6-meth-oxy-phenolate (L) ligands in a distorted square-planar geometry. The ammonium groups are involved in the formation of N-H?O and N-H?N hydrogen bonds, which link one dication and two anions into an electroneutral cluster. When very weak Cu-N interactions with a distance of 2.910?(5)?Å between the metal and the thiocyanate anions in apical positions are considered, the secondary coordination polyhedron is a very elongated CuN(4)O(2) octahedron.

The Ni-O bond lengths range from 2.004?(2) to 2.106?(2)?Å, while the Ni-N bond lengths are 2.038?(2) and 2.0465?(19)?Å. The cis bond angles range from 78.64?(8) to 97.30?(8)°, with the former being due to the small bite of the amino-alcohol ligand, while the trans bond angles range from 167.86?(8) to 171.23?(8)°. One of the alcohol H atoms forms a hydrogen bond with the dimethyl-formamide (DMF) solvent mol-ecule, while the other links mol-ecules into chains along the b axis through inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds. There are bifurcated C-H?O inter-actions involving one of the nitro groups between parallel stacks of mol-ecules in the b-axis direction.
