3-Methyl-ideneoxolane-2,5-dione.

ABSTRACT: The title compound (itaconic anhydride), C5H4O3, consists of a five-membered carbon-oxygen ring in a flat envelope conformation (the unsubstituted C atom being the flap) with three exocyclic double bonds to two O atoms and one C atom. In contrast to the bond lengths, which are very similar to those in itaconic acid in its pure form or in adducts with other mol-ecules, the bond angles differ significantly because of the effect of ring closure giving rise to strong distortions at the C atoms involved in the exocyclic double bonds. In the crystal, C-H?O inter-actions link the mol-ecules, forming an extended three-dimensional network.

Project description:Chlorination of 3-fluoro-2-methyl-aniline with N-chloro-succinimide gave one major regioisomer whose structure was determined by X-ray crystallography. The product was found to have cocrystallized with succinimide, giving the title compound, C(7)H(7)ClFN·C(4)H(5)NO(2). The crystal structure is stabilized by N-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding and π-π stacking inter-actions with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.4501 (8) Å.

Project description:In the title co-crystal, C(12)H(11)Br(2)N(3)O·C(4)H(5)NO(2), the naphthyridine derivative and the pyrrolidine-2,5-dione mol-ecules have crystallographic mirror-plane symmetry with all non-H atoms, except the Br atom, located on the mirror plane. In the crystal, N-H⋯N, N-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into heterodimers. These dimers are further linked into a one-dimensional structure along [010] by weak C-Br⋯O inter-actions [Br⋯O = 3.028 (5) Å and C-Br⋯O = 158.52 (4)°].

Synthesis and characterization of 3-methyl-6-[(propyn-yloxy)meth-yl]-1,4-dioxane-2,5-dione.

Project description:The number of known asymmetrically substituted hemilactides, important precursors for obtaining regular derivatives of polylactide polymers, is still limited and structural characterization of most of them is incomplete. In the title racemic 1,4-dioxane-2,5-dione derivative, C9H10O5, the hemilactide heterocycle exhibits a twist-boat conformation. The bulkier propynyloxymethyl group is in an axial position with a gauche conformation for the CH2-O-CH2-C segment. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by pairs of C-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming inversion dimers. The dimers are linked by further C-H?O contacts, forming a three-dimensional structure.
