5-Iodo-3-phenyl-2,1-benzoxazole.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C13H8INO, was prepared by a condensation reaction of 4-nitro-benzene with phenyl-acetonitrile in NaOH-ethanol solution. There are two independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit, in which the dihedral angles between the benzene ring and the benzoisoxazole unit are 4.2?(3) and 4.1?(3)°. The crystal packing is governed by C-H?N, C-I?? and C-I?O inter-actions.

Structural analysis of 2-iodo-benzamide and 2-iodo-N-phenyl-benzamide.

Project description:The title compounds, 2-iodo-benzamide, C7H6INO (I), and 2-iodo-N-phenyl-benzamide, C13H10INO (II), were both synthesized from 2-iodo-benzoic acid. In the crystal structure of (I), N-H⋯O and hydrogen bonds form two sets of closed rings, generating dimers and tetra-mers. These combine with C-I⋯π(ring) halogen bonds to form sheets of mol-ecules in the bc plane. For (II), N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds form chains along the a-axis direction, while inversion-related C-I⋯π(ring) contacts supported by C-H⋯π(ring) interactions generate sheets of mol-ecules along the ab diagonal.

Project description:In the title compound, C(24)H(16)O(2)S, the O atom and the phenyl group of the phenyl-sulfinyl substituent lie on opposite sides of the plane of the naphthofuran fragment; the phenyl ring is almost perpendicular to this plane [82.34?(5)°]. The 2-phenyl ring is rotated out of the naphthofuran plane making a dihedral angle of 48.21?(6)°. Project description:The title crystals, C7H2I3N, are isomorphous. Both mol-ecules lie across two crystallographic mirror planes and a twofold axis. The principal supra-molecular inter-action is centric R22(10) CN/NC⋯I short contacts involving both ortho I atoms, with two contacts bis-ecting each cyano and iso-cyano group. These form ribbons along [010] and give rise to a planar sheet structure parallel to (100). All pairs of adjacent sheets have centric stacking, a mode not previously reported for sheets of this type. This study completes the series of homo-2,4,6-trihalobenzo-nitriles, in which I atoms give the strongest CN⋯X and NC⋯X inter-actions (X = F, Cl, Br, I).

Project description:The title compound, C(16)H(13)IO(3)S, was prepared by the oxidation of 5-iodo-2,7-dimethyl-3-phenyl-sulfanyl-1-benzofuran with 3-chloro-peroxy-benzoic acid. The phenyl ring makes a dihedral angle of 76.31 (8)° with the plane of the benzofuran fragment. The crystal structure is stabilized by aromatic π-π inter-actions between the furan and benzene rings of neighbouring mol-ecules, and between the benzene rings of neighbouring mol-ecules; the centroid-centroid distances within the stack are 3.700 (4) and 3.788 (4) Å. In addition, the crystal structure exhibits inter- and intra-molecular C-H⋯O inter-actions, and an I⋯O halogen bond with an I⋯O distance of 3.282 (2) Å and a nearly linear C-I⋯O angle of 165.69 (8)°.

Project description:In title compound, C(12)H(9)IN(2)O(2)S, the nitro group is rotated slightly, by 8.91 (3)°, out of the plane of the aromatic ring to which it is bonded. Between the two aromatic rings the CSN plane is at a dihedral angle of 84.0 (7)° to the HNC plane. Mol-ecules are linked by C-H⋯O inter-actions into a double helical supra-molecular architecture. There are no iodo-nitro, π-π or C-H⋯π(arene) inter-actions.
