Project description:We report a copper-catalyzed, regioselective, and stereospecific alkylation of unbiased internal allylic carbonates with functionalized alkyl and aryl Grignard reagents. The reactions exhibit high stereospecificity and regioselectivity for either SN 2 or SN 2' products under two sets of copper-catalyzed conditions, which enables the preparation of a broad range of products with E-alkene selectivity. Density functional theory calculations reveal the origins of the regioselectivity based on the different behaviors of homo- and heterocuprates.

Project description:A catalytic enantioselective and regiodivergent arylation of alkenes is described. Chiral copper(II)bisoxazoline complexes catalyze the addition of diaryliodonium salts to allylic amides in excellent ee. Moreover, the arylation can be controlled by the electronic nature of the diaryliodonium salt enabling the preparation of nonracemic diaryloxazines or β,β'-diaryl enamides.

Palladium-Catalyzed Enantioselective Intermolecular Coupling of Phenols and Allylic Alcohols.

Project description:An enantioselective intermolecular coupling of oxygen nucleophiles and allylic alcohols to give β-aryloxycarbonyl compounds is disclosed using a chiral pyridine oxazoline-ligated palladium catalyst under mild conditions. As opposed to the formation of traditional Wacker-type products, enantioselective migratory insertion is followed by β-hydride elimination toward the adjacent alcohol. Deuterium labeling experiments suggest a syn-migratory insertion of the alkene into the Pd-O bond. A broad scope of phenols, various allylic alcohols, and an alkyl hydroperoxide are viable coupling partners in this process.

Palladium-catalyzed allylic etherification of phenols with vinyl ethylene carbonate

Project description:The palladium-catalyzed decarboxylative reactions of phenols and vinyl ethylene carbonate to produce allylic aryl ethers under mild conditions have been established. Adopting an inexpensive PdCl2(dppf) catalyst promotes the efficient conversion of phenols to the corresponding allylic aryl ethers via the formation of a new C-O bond in good isolated yields with complete regioselectivities, acceptable functional group tolerance and operational simplicity. The robust procedure could be completed smoothly by conducting a scaled-up reaction with comparable efficiency to afford the target product.

Project description:A mild and metal-free regiodivergent addition of carbon nucleophiles to α,β-unsaturated electrophiles was developed. Total 1,2-regioselectivity was observed in the addition of nitrobenzyl chloride derivative 1 to α,β-unsaturated aldehydes 2 in the presence of TDAE. Moreover, the reaction between p-nitrobenzyl chloride 1a and α,β-unsaturated iminium salts 4 led to the formation of the 1,4-adduct with total regioselectivity.

Access to P-chiral phosphine oxides by enantioselective allylic alkylation of bisphenols.

Project description:A novel biscinchona alkaloid-catalyzed highly enantioselective desymmetrization reaction of bisphenol compounds with achiral Morita-Baylis-Hillman carbonate agents was developed. Through the asymmetric allylic alkylation strategy, a broad range of optically active P-stereogenic phosphine oxides were generated with excellent to good yields (up to 99%) and high enantioselectivities (up to 98.5 : 1.5 e.r.). The reaction was further investigated by the linear free energy relationship (LFER) analysis. A possible transition state was proposed and furthered verified by theoretical calculations.

Project description:An electrooxidative [3 + 2] annulation of phenols and electron-deficient alkenes for the synthesis of C3-functionalized 2-aryl-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran derivatives was achieved. The ring construction starts by a unique α-addition of carbon radicals derived from anodic oxidation of phenols to electron-deficient alkenes. The subsequent anodic oxidation of the resulting alkyl radical intermediates followed by trapping with the phenolic hydroxy group assembles the 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran core. Such a pathway enables the installation of various electrophilic functionalities including alkoxycarbonyl, alkylaminocarbonyl, trifluoromethyl, and cyano groups at the C-3 of the 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran framework, which is unattainable by other intermolecular reactions. The application of this method for a rapid synthesis of a bioactive natural product is demonstrated.
