Crystal structure of poly[[?-1,1'-(butane-1,4-di-yl)bis-(1H-benzimidazole)-?(2) N (3):N (3')]{?-4,4'-[1,4-phenyl-enebis(-oxy)]di-ben-zo-ato-?(4) O,O':O'',O'''}cobalt(II)].

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, [Co(C20H12O6)(C18H18N4)] n , the Co(II) atom, located on a twofold rotation axis, is hexa-coordinated to four O from two bis-bidentate 4,4'-[phenyl-enebis(-oxy)]dibenzoate (L) ligands and two N atoms from two 1,1'-(butane-1,4-di-yl)bis-(1H-benzimidazole) (bbbm) ligands, forming a distorted octahedral cis-N2O4 coordination environment. Polymeric zigzag chains along [102] are built up by the bridging L ligands. These chains are additionally connected by the bbbm ligands to produce a two-dimensional coordination polymer parallel too (010).

The naphthalene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate and L ligands bridge the metal centres, forming a three-dimensional framework, which is consolidated by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The title compound, [Zn(CH(3)CO(2))Cl(C(14)H(14)N(4))](n), is a one-dimensional coordination polymer in which the Zn(II) ion is tetrahedrally -coordinated by two N atoms of a bridging 1,1'-[1,4-phenyl-enebis(methyl-ene)]di-1H-imidazole ligand, an acetate O atom and a Cl atom. The Cl atom, two acetate O atoms and two acetate C atoms are located on a mirror plane. The coordination of the diimidazole ligand to the Zn(II) ion gives an infinite one-dimensional zigzag structure along the b-axis direction with the charge balanced by the chloride and acetate ions.

The imidazolium ring forms a dihedral angle of 62.7 (3)° with the plane defined by the C atoms of the -(CH(2))(4)- aliphatic linker. Two anions bind to the cation via three-centre N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and thus discrete hydrogen-bonded ion triples are formed. The Co(II) atom is six-coordinated in a slightly distorted octa-hedral environment by four N atoms from four different ligands and by two O atoms from the water mol-ecules. The Co(II) atoms are bridged by the ligands into a (4,4) net. Adjacent nets are linked to the chloride anions and uncoordinated water mol-ecules via O-H⋯Cl and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, generating a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure.
