Crystal structure of trans-1-{2-[4-(di-methyl-amino)-phen-yl]eth-yl}-4-[2-(pyren-1-yl)eth-yl]cyclo-hexa-ne.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C34H37N, is a pyrene derivative in which the pyrene ring system is linked to an ethyl-cyclo-hexane unit which, in turn, carries a [4-(di-methyl-amino)-phen-yl]ethyl substituent in the para position. The central cyclo-hexane ring has a chair conformation, with the exocyclic C-C bonds in equatorial orientations. The benzene ring is inclined to the mean plane of the pyrene ring system [maximum deviation = 0.038 (4) Å] by 14.84 (15)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by C-H⋯π inter-actions, forming chains propagating along [010]. The crystal was refined as a non-merohedral twin [domain ratio = 0.9989 (4):0.0011 (4)].

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C16H22N2O2S, contains two crystallographically independent mol-ecules (A and B). In mol-ecule A, the cyclo-hexane ring is disordered over two orientations [occupancy ratio 0.841?(10):0.159?(10)]. In each mol-ecule, the central carbonyl thio-urea unit is nearly planar (r.m.s. deviations for all non-H atoms of 0.034?Å in mol-ecule A and 0.094?Å in mol-ecule B). In both mol-ecules, the cyclo-hexane ring adopts a chair conformation. The mean plane of the cyclo-hexane ring makes dihedral angles of 35.8?(4) (mol-ecule A) and 20.7?(3)° (mol-ecule B) with that of the benzene ring. The centrosymmetric hydrogen-bonded rings formed by four oxonium cations and four phosphate anions can be described by an R 4 (8)(36) graph-set motif. The ring motifs are connected by hydrogen bonds into inorganic layers perpendicular to [100]. The 1-(2,3-di-methyl-phen-yl)piperazine-1,4-diium cations are located between the layers, compensating their negative charge and establishing N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds with the O atoms of the anionic framework.

The CuII atoms, lying on inversion centres, are coordinated by the four secondary N atoms of the macrocyclic ligands and the mutually trans O atoms of the water mol-ecules in a tetra-gonally elongated octa-hedral geometry. The average equatorial Cu-N bond length is significantly shorter than the average axial Cu-O bond length [2.007 (10) and 2.486 (18) Å, respectively]. The macrocyclic ligand in the complex cations adopts the most energetically stable trans-III conformation. The complex cations and anions are connected via hydrogen-bonding inter-actions between the N-H groups of the macrocycles and the O-H groups of coordinated water mol-ecules as the proton donors and the O atoms of the carboxyl-ate as the proton acceptors into layers lying parallel to the (11) plane.
