ABSTRACT: This review summarizes research into the metal-binding properties of catalytic DNAzymes, towards the goal of understanding the structural properties leading to metal ion specificity. Progress made and insight gained from a range of biochemical and biophysical techniques are covered, and promising directions for future investigations are discussed.
