<h4>Aims</h4>Low blood concentrations of the naturally occurring amino acid L-homoarginine (L-hArg) are related to impaired cardiovascular outcome and mortality in humans and animals. L-hArg is a weak substrate of nitric oxide synthase and an inhibitor of arginases in vitro.
