ABSTRACT: A straightforward synthesis of diaryliodonium salts is achieved by using Oxone as the stoichiometric oxidant. Slow addition is the key to obtaining good yields and purities of the reaction products, which are highly useful reagents in many different areas of organic synthesis.

Project description:A facile synthesis of diaryliodonium salts utilizing Oxone as versatile and cheap oxidant has been developed. This method shows wide applicability and can be used for the preparation of iodonium salts containing electron-donating or electron-withdrawing groups in good yields. In addition, this procedure can be applied to the preparation of symmetric iodonium salts directly from arenes via a one-pot iodination-oxidation sequence.

One-Pot C-H Functionalization of Arenes by Diaryliodonium Salts.

Project description:A transition-metal-free, mild, and highly regioselective synthesis of nitroarenes from arenes has been developed. The products are obtained in a sequential one-pot reaction by nitration of iodine(III) reagents with two carbon ligands, which are formed in situ from iodine(I). This novel concept has been extended to formation of aryl azides, and constitutes an important step towards catalytic reactions with these hypervalent iodine reagents. An efficient nitration of isolated diaryliodonium salts has also been developed, and the mechanism is proposed to proceed by a [2,2]?ligand coupling pathway.

A Mild and General One-Pot Synthesis of Densely Functionalized Diaryliodonium Salts.

Project description:Diaryliodonium salts are powerful and widely used arylating agents in organic chemistry. Here we report a scalable, synthesis of densely functionalized diaryliodonium salts from aryl iodides under mild conditions. This two-step, one-pot process has remarkable functional group tolerance, is compatible with commonly employed acid-labile protective group strategies, avoids heavy metal and transition metal reagents, and provides a direct route to stable precursors to PET imaging agents.

Project description:Various 4-aryl-3-bromocoumarins were smoothly obtained in moderate yields in one pot by treating 3-aryl-2-propynoic acids with diaryliodonium triflates and K2CO3 in the presence of CuCl, followed by the reaction with tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) and Na2S2O8. The obtained 3-bromo-4-phenylcoumarin was transformed into 4-phenylcoumarin derivatives bearing C-H, C-S, C-N, and C-C bonds at 3-position.

One-Pot, Metal-Free Conversion of Anilines to Aryl Bromides and Iodides.

Project description:A metal-free synthesis of aryl bromides and iodides from anilines via halogen abstraction from bromotrichloromethane and diiodomethane is described. This one-pot reaction affords aryl halides from the corresponding anilines in moderate to excellent yields without isolation of diazonium salts. The transformation has short reaction times, a simple workup, and insensitivity to moisture and air and avoids excess halogenation. DFT calculations support a SRN1 mechanism. This method represents a convenient alternative to the classic Sandmeyer reaction.

A facile and efficient route to one-pot synthesis of new cyclophanes using vinamidinium salts.

Project description:In this study, an efficient method for the synthesis of new cyclophanes (5a-f, 6a-g) through the condensation of 1,4-phenylenedimethanamine (3) or 2,3,5,6-tetramethylbenzene-1,4-diamine (4) with 2-substituted vinamidiniums (2a-g) is described. The cyclophane derivatives are obtained in good to excellent yields in the presence of acetic acid in refluxing acetonitrile after 15 h. The structure of new compounds was validated based on their spectral data (1H NMR, 13C NMR, IR) and elemental analysis.

One pot synthesis of trifluoromethyl aryl sulfoxides by trifluoromethylthiolation of arenes and subsequent oxidation with hydrogen peroxide.

Project description:Hydrogen peroxide was used for oxidation of various aryl trifluoromethyl sulfides. Trifluoroacetic acid was used as an activating solvent that enables non-catalyzed oxidation and increases selectivity for sulfoxide formation. As shown by oxidation of thianthrene TFA enhances electrophilic character of the oxidant and further oxidation of sulfoxide group is blocked. We have joined trifluoromethylthiolation of arenes using a modified Billard reagent (p-ClPhNHSCF3) with oxidation of aryl trifluoromethyl sulfides using 1.2 equiv. of 30% aqueous hydrogen peroxide and this one-pot process has superior yields than would have been obtained in a two step process.

The Diaryliodonium(III) Salts Reaction With Free-Radicals Enables One-Pot Double Arylation of Naphthols.

Project description:The chemoselective reaction of the C- followed by the O-centered naphthyl radicals with the more electron-deficient hypervalent bond of the diaryliodonium(III) salts is described. This discovered reactivity constitutes a new activation mode of the diaryliodonium(III) salts which enabled a one-pot doubly arylation of naphthols through the sequential C s p 2 - C s p 2 /O- C s p 2 bond formation. The naphthyl radicals were generated in the reaction by the tetramethylpiperidinyl radical (TMP·) which resulted from the homolytic fragmentation of the precursor TMP2O. Experimental and DFT calculations provided a complete panorama of the reaction mechanism.

Facile one-pot synthesis of polytypic CuGaS2 nanoplates.

Project description:CuGaS2 (CGS) nanoplates were successfully synthesized by one-pot thermolysis of a mixture solution of CuCl, GaCl3, and 1-dodecanethiol in noncoordinating solvent 1-octadecene. Their morphology, crystalline phase, and composition were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), respectively. Crystalline structure analysis showed that the as-prepared CGS nanoplates were polytypic, in which the wurtzite phase was interfaced with zincblende domains. The growth process of CGS nanoplates was investigated. It was found that copper sulfide nanoplates were firstly formed and then the as-formed copper sulfide nanoplates gradually transformed to CGS nanoplates with proceeding of the reaction. The optical absorption of the as-synthesized CGS nanoplates was also measured and the direct optical bandgap was determined to be 2.24 eV.

A one pot protocol to convert nitro-arenes into <i>N</i>-aryl amides.

Project description:A two-step one pot, experimentally simple protocol, based on readily available and inexpensive reagents allowed the conversion of nitro-arenes directly to N-aryl amides. A metal-free reduction of the nitro group, mediated by trichlorosilane, followed by the addition of an anhydride afforded the corresponding N-aryl carboxyamide, that was isolated after a simple aqueous work up in good-excellent yields. When the methodology was applied to the reaction with γ-butyrolactone, the desired N-aryl butanamide derivative was obtained, featuring a chlorine atom at the γ-position, a functionalized handle that can be used for further synthetic manipulation of the reaction product. Such an intermediate has already been employed as a key advanced precursor of pharmaceutically active compounds.
