Antibiotic efflux is one of the most critical mechanisms leading to bacterial multidrug resistance. Antibiotics are effluxed out of the bacterial cell by a tripartite efflux pump, a complex machinery comprised of outer membrane, periplasmic adaptor, and inner membrane protein components.
