The green alga <i>Chlamydomonas reinhardtii</i> is an invaluable reference organism to research fields including algal, plant, and ciliary biology. Accordingly, decades-long standing inefficiencies in targeted nuclear gene editing broadly hinder <i>Chlamydomonas</i> research.
