The first record of Telemidae from Kenya, with the description of two new species (Arachnida, Araneae).

ABSTRACT: Two new species of Telemidae from Kenya are described: Guhua kakamegaensis Zhao & Li, gen. et sp. n., Apneumonella taitatavetaensis Zhao & Li, sp. n. Holotypes are deposited in the National Museum of Kenya in Nairobi, and all paratypes are deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing. A distribution map of Telemidae found in Kenya is presented.

Project description:Species of the spider family Telemidae Fage, 1913 from East and Southeast Asia are revised. Four new genera are erected: Mekonglema Zhao & Li, gen. nov. with the type species Mekonglema bailang Zhao & Li, sp. nov. (♂♀, Yunnan, China), Siamlema Zhao & Li, gen. nov. with the type species Siamlema changhai Zhao & Li, sp. nov. (♂♀, southern Thailand), Sundalema Zhao & Li, gen. nov. with the type species Sundalema bonjol Zhao & Li, sp. nov. (♂♀, Sumatra), and Zhuanlema Zhao & Li, gen. nov. with the type species Zhuanlema peteri Zhao & Li, sp. nov. (♂♀, northern Laos). Thirty species are transferred from the genus Telema Simon, 1882 to the genera Pinelema Wang & Li, 2012, Sundalema gen. nov., and Telemofila Wunderlich, 1995. Seychellia xinpingi Lin & Li, 2008 is transferred to Mekonglema gen. nov. as M. xinpingi comb. nov. Furthermore, the genus Pinelema is divided into seven species groups based on male morphological characters.

Project description:Seven new species of the spider genus Pinelema Wang & Li, 2012, from Vietnam are reported: P. damtaoensis Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??), P. nuocnutensis Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??), P. laensis Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??), P. pacchanensis Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??), P. spirulata Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??), P. xiezi Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??), and P. zhenzhuang Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??). Prior to the current study, this genus contained eight species and was known only from southwestern China. The diagnosis of the genus is updated, accounting for characters found in the new species.

First record of the mygalomorph spider family Paratropididae (Arachnida, Araneae) in North America with the description of a new species of Paratropis Simon from Mexico, and with new ultramorphological data for the family.

Project description:A new species of the genus Paratropis is described from North America: Paratropis tuxtlensis sp. n., from a tropical rainforest in Veracruz, Mexico. This is the fifth Paratropis and the tenth paratropidid species described and the first North American record of this Neotropical family. The species is described based on adult males and females, and juveniles. The juveniles show ontogenetic variation in the number of cuspules on the labium and endites, and in the number and position of leg trichobothria. This is the second Paratropis species, and the third paratropidid known from both sexes. The scanning electron photographs (SEM) reveal new morphological data and contribute to the knowledge of the family.

The first Western Palearctic record of Euprosthenops Pocock (Araneae, Pisauridae), with description of a new species from Israel.

Project description:The primarily Afrotropical genus Euprosthenops Pocock, 1897 is recorded in the Western Palearctic for the first time. A diagnosis and an illustrated description of E.insperatus sp. nov., based on a single male from southern Israel, are provided. Considering the structure of the male palp, the holotype of E.insperatus sp. nov. resembles males of two widespread African species, E.australis Simon, 1898 and E.proximus Lessert, 1916; it differs from them by colouration pattern as well as by the different shapes of the retrolateral tibial apophysis and the palpal sclerites. A short survey of the regional insect and spider genera of the paleotropical origin is also presented.

Project description:The Pinelemabailongensis Wang & Li, 2012 species group of the spider family Telemidae Fage, 1913 from Guangxi and Guizhou, China is revised. Previously, this species group contained two species: P.bailongensis and P.xiushuiensis Wang & Li, 2016. In this study, four species are transferred from Telema Simon, 1882 to Pinelema Wang & Li, 2012, and treated as members of the P.bailongensis species group. They are P.cordata (Wang & Li, 2010) comb. n., P.liangxi (Zhu & Chen, 2002) comb. n., P.strentarsi (Lin & Li, 2010) comb. n. and P.zhewang (Chen & Zhu, 2009) comb. n. Additionally, six new species belonging to the species group are described: P.cheni Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??), P.huoyan Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??), P.lizhuang Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??), P.wangshang Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??), P.wenyang Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??) and P.yunchuni Zhao & Li, sp. n. (??). A key to males is provided.
