Acid-sensing ion channels (ASICs) are neuronal voltage-independent Na<sup>+</sup> channels that are activated by extracellular acidification. ASICs play essential roles in a wide range of physiological processes, including sodium homeostasis, synaptic plasticity, neurodegeneration, and sensory transduction.
