Aqueous two-phase systems (ATPS) of polyethylene glycol (PEG) and dextran (DEX) are commonly used to partition proteins. Protein partition in ATPS is a complex phenomenon and depends on factors including molecular weight of polymers, and electrochemical and ionic properties of the phases.
