Size-selected Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub>-Au hybrid nanoparticles with diameters of 6-44 nm (Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub>) and 3-11 nm (Au) were prepared by high temperature, wet chemical synthesis. High-quality Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub> nanocrystals with bulk-like magnetic behavior were obtained as confirmed by the presence of the Verwey transition.
