Synthesis and crystal structure of a new coordination polymer based on lanthanum and 1,4-phenyl-enedi-acetate ligands.

ABSTRACT: Reaction in gel between the sodium salt of 1,4-phenyl-enedi-acetic acid (Na₂C₁₀O₄H₈-Na₂ p-pda) and lanthanum chloride yields single crystals of the three-dimensional coordination polymer poly[[tetra-aqua-tris-(?-1,4-phenyl-enedi-acetato)-dilanthanum(III)] octa-hydrate], {[La₂(C₁₀H₈O₄)₃(H₂O)₄]·8H₂O}_?. The La^III coordination polyhedron can be described as a slightly distorted monocapped square anti-prism. One of the two p-pda^2- ligands is bound to four La^III ions and the other to two La^III ions. Each La^III atom is coordinated by five ligands, thereby generating a metal-organic framework with potential porosity properties.

Project description:Poly[tetra-?2-acetato-?8O:O'-bis-(?2-benzene-1,2-di-amine-?2N:N')dicadmium], [Cd2(CH3COO)4(C6H8N2)2] n , (I), and poly[[(?2-acetato-?2O:O')(acetato-?2O,O')(?2-benzene-1,3-di-amine-?2N:N')cadmium] hemihydrate], {[Cd(CH3COO)2(C6H8N2)]·0.5H2O} n , (II), have two-dimensional polymeric structures in which monomeric units are joined by bridging acetate and benzenedi-amine ligands. Each of the CdII ions has an O4N2 coordination environment. The coordination geometries of the symmetry-independent CdII ions are distorted octa-hedral and distorted trigonal anti-prismatic in (I) and distorted anti-prismatic in (II). Both compounds exhibit an intra-layer hydrogen-bonding network. In addition, the water of hydration in (II) is involved in inter-layer hydrogen bonding.

Hydro-thermal synthesis and crystal structure of a new lanthanum(III) coordination polymer with fumaric acid.

Project description:The title compound, poly[di-aqua-tris-(?4-but-2-enedioato)(?2-but-2-enedioic acid)dilanthanum(III)], [La2(C4H2O4)3(C4H4O4)(H2O)2] n , was synthesized by the reaction of lanthanum chloride penta-hydrate with fumaric acid under hydro-thermal conditions. The asymmetric unit comprises an La(III) cation, one and a half fumarate dianions (L (2-)), one a half-mol-ecule of fumaric acid (H2 L) and one coordinated water mol-ecule. Each La(III) cation has the same nine-coordinate environment and is surrounded by eight O atoms from seven distinct fumarate moieties, including one proton-ated fumarate unit and one water mol-ecule in a distorted tricapped trigonal-prismatic environment. The LaO8(H2O) polyhedra centres are edge-shared through three carboxyl-ate bridges of the fumarate ligand, forming chains in three dimensions to construct the MOF. The crystal structure is stabilized by O-H?O hydrogen-bond inter-actions between the coordin-ated water mol-ecule and the carboxyl-ate O atoms, and also between oxygen atoms of fumaric acid.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title 1:1 co-crystal, C10H8N2·C10H10O4, consists of one half-mol-ecule each of 4,4'-bi-pyridine and 1,4-phenyl-enedi-acetic acid: the complete mol-ecules are generated by crystallographic inversion centres. The dihedral angle between the -CO2H group and the benzene ring in the diacid is 73.02 (7)°. In the crystal, the components are linked by O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, generating [1-2-1] chains of alternating amine and carb-oxy-lic acid mol-ecules. The chains are cross-linked by C-H⋯O inter-actions. This structure was previously incorrectly described as a (C10H10N2)(2+)·(C10H8O4)(2-) mol-ecular salt [Jia et al. (2009 ▸). Acta Cryst. E65, o2490-o2490].

Crystal structures of 2,5-di-azido-1,4-phenyl-ene di-acetate and 2,5-di-azido-1,4-phenyl-ene dibutyrate.

Project description:The asymmetric units of the title compounds, C10H8N6O4, (I), and C14H16N6O4, (II), each contain half of the respective mol-ecule which is completed by inversion symmetry. The two molecules differ in the ester moiety (acetate versus butyrate) and the crystal symmetry is different, i.e. triclinic for (I) and monoclinic for (II). The di-azido-phenyl-ene moieties are essentially planar [maximum deviation of 0.0216?(7)?Å for (I) and 0.0330?(14)?Å for (II)], and the ester functionalities are almost perpendicular to these planes, making dihedral angles of 79.93?(3)° for (I) and 79.42?(6)° for (II). In the crystals of both (I) and (II), there are no significant inter-molecular inter-actions present.

Crystal structure of a one-dimensional coordination polymer of tin(IV) bromide with 1,4-di-thiane.

Project description:The title compound, [SnBr4(C4H8S2)] {systematic name: catena-poly[[tetrabromidotin(IV)]-?-1,4-dithiane-?(2) S:S']}, represents the first 1,4-di-thiane complex with tin as coordination centre. The asymmetric unit consist of half a formula unit with the tin(IV) atom at the centre of symmetry at 0,0,1/2 (Wyckoff symbol b) and a centrosymmetric 1,4-di-thiane mol-ecule with the centre of symmetry in 1/2,0,1 (Wyckoff symbol c). The tin(IV) atom is coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral manner by the four bromine atoms and two sulfur atoms of two 1,4-di-thiane mol-ecules in a trans-position. Sn-Br [mean value: 2.561?(5)?Å] and Sn-S distances [2.6546?(6)?Å] are in the typical range for octa-hedrally coordinated tin(IV) atoms and the di-thiane mol-ecule adopts a chair conformation. The one-dimensional polymeric chains propagate along the [101] direction with weak inter-molecular Br?Br [3.5724?(4)?Å] between parallel chains and weak Br?H inter-actions [2.944-2.993?Å] within the chains.

Crystal structure and photoluminescent properties of a new EuIII-phthalate-acetate coordination polymer.

Project description:A new coordination polymer, poly[(acetato)aqua(μ3-phthalato)europium(III)], [Eu(C8H4O4)(CH3O2)(H2O)] n or [EuIII(phth)(OAc)(H2O)] (phth2- = phthalate and OAc- = acetate) was synthesized and characterized, revealing it to be a supra-molecular assembly of one-dimensional [EuIII(phth)(OAc)(H2O)] chains. Each chain is built up of edge-sharing distorted tricapped trigonal-prismatic TPRS-{EuIIIO9} building motifs and assembled in a regular fashion through hydrogen-bonding and aromatic π-π inter-actions. The fully deprotonated phth2- ligand was shown to be an effective sensitizer, promoting the characteristic 5 D 0→7 FJ (J = 1-4) emissions of EuIII even in the presence of the non-sensitizing OAc- group.

Synthesis, crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of a zinc(II) coordination polymer of 5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxa-diazole-2-thiol-ate.

Project description:A new zinc coordination polymer with 5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxa-diazole-2-thiol-ate, namely, catena-poly[zinc(II)-bis-(μ2-5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxa-diazole-2-thiol-ato)-κ2 N 3:S;κ2 S:N 3], [Zn(C8H5N2OS)2] n , was synthesized. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis shows that the polymeric structure crystallizes in the centrosymmetric monoclinic C2/c space group. The ZnII atom is coordinated to two S and two N atoms from four crystallographically independent (L) ligands, forming zigzag chains along the [001] direction. This polymer complex forms an eight-membered [Zn-S-C-N-Zn-S-C-N] chair-like ring with two ZnII atoms and two ligand mol-ecules. On the Hirshfeld surface, the largest contributions come from the short contacts such as van der Waals forces, including H⋯H, C⋯H and S⋯H. Inter-actions including N⋯H, O⋯H and C⋯C contacts were also observed; however, their contribution to the overall stability of the crystal lattice is minor.

Project description:In the title one-dimensional coordination polymer, {[Cd(C(11)H(10)O(6))(H(2)O)(3)]·H(2)O}(n), the 2,2'-(5-methyl-1,3-phenyl-enedi-oxy)diacetate dianions connect Cd(II) ions in a head-to-tail fashion to generate zigzag chains. The coordination geometry of the Cd atom is distorted penta-gonal bipyramidal. There are O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the carboxyl O atoms, the aqua ligands and the uncoordinated water mol-ecules.

Synthesis and crystal structure of a one-dimensional chain-like strontium(II) coordination polymer built of N-methyldi-ethano-lamine and isobutyrate ligands.

Project description:The one-dimensional coordination polymer (I) [Sr(ib)2(H2mda)] n (Hib = isobutyric acid, C4H8O2, and H2mda = N-methyldi-ethano-lamine, C5H13NO2), namely, catena-poly[[(N-methyldi-ethano-lamine-κ3 O,N,O')strontium(II)]-di-μ2-isobutyrato-κ3 O,O':O;κ3 O:O,O'], was prepared by the one-pot aerobic reaction of [Zr6O4(OH)4(ib)12(H2O)]·3Hib with Sr(NO3)2 and H2mda in the presence of MnCl2 and Et3N in aceto-nitrile. The use of MnCl2 is key to the isolation of I as high-quality colorless crystals in good yield. The mol-ecular solid-state structure of I was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound I crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c and shows a one-dimensional polymeric chain structure. Each monomeric unit of this coordination polymer consists of a central SrII ion in the NO8 coordination environment of two deprotonated ib- ligands and one fully protonated H2mda ligand. The C and O atoms of the H2mda ligand were refined as disordered over two sets of sites with site occupancies of 0.619 (3) and 0.381 (3). Compound I shows thermal stability up to 130°C in air.
