Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease of the skin mediated by CD8<sup>+</sup> T cells that kill melanocytes and create white spots. Skin lesions in vitiligo frequently return after discontinuing conventional treatments, supporting the hypothesis that autoimmune memory is formed at these locations.
