An FAQ dataset for E-learning system used on a Japanese University.

ABSTRACT: In this data article, we present an FAQ dataset written in Japanese and its translation to English in order to train chatbot models for e-learning systems. We first collected raw Q&A data reported as the difficulties from April 2015 to July 2018 by users of the e-learning system introduced at Tokyo Metropolitan University. We then divided them into 11 categories according to features provided by the e-learning system. Finally, we integrated questions with the same answers in order to create the FAQ form. The dataset contains 427 questions and 79 answers that were examined by experts with experience in using the e-learning system for more than three years. Using this dataset, we performed statistical analyses to evaluate the qualities of the FAQ dataset. The proposed applications of the dataset include not only academic research but also activities; for example, translating from Japanese to another one like Chinese, adapting/modifying our dataset for another e-learning system, and developing language models to obtain highly accurate responses from chatbots.

Project description:The data presented in this data article were collected at three points in the 2012-2013 academic year; Fall 2012, Spring 2013, and Summer 2013 from undergraduate students enrolled in an introductory health education course at a large university in the United States. The data regarding undergraduate students' perceptions of and experiences with the campus emergency notification system were ascertained using a self-administered online-delivered survey instrument. The data included in the Mendeley Data repository affiliated with this data article encompass closed- and open-ended responses from 746 undergraduate students. Closed-ended questions included items based on central constructs from Technology Acceptance Model research-perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, attitudes toward use, and behavioral intention. Survey questions also assessed students' actual use of emergency notification messages, students' perceived self-efficacy to respond to future potential emergency notifications, and demographics and technology use characteristics. This research team asked open-ended questions to collect students' ideas for systematic improvement in their own words. Descriptive statistics for demographic variables, participant characteristic variables, and scale variables were conducted in SPSS 27 and are provided in tables. The open-ended question response frequencies were also calculated in SPSS 27 and are provided within a supplemental PDF. To date, no data pertaining to an institution of higher education's emergency notification system are published for open access use. This article provides open access data and surveys that campus emergency planners, researchers, and health education specialists can use to inform emergency communication plans, improve the content of critical campus alert messages, structure future emergency notification studies, and frame future emergency notification system evaluations. This research team anticipates these data will help campus emergency personnel craft more effective messages and optimize their channel mixture to make emergency notifications reach and resonate with students in situations when minutes matter. Project description:In Nigerian universities, enrolment into any engineering undergraduate program requires that the minimum entry criteria established by the National Universities Commission (NUC) must be satisfied. Candidates seeking admission to study engineering discipline must have reached a predetermined entry age and met the cut-off marks set for Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), and the post-UTME screening. However, limited effort has been made to show that these entry requirements eventually guarantee successful academic performance in engineering programs because the data required for such validation are not readily available. In this data article, a comprehensive dataset for empirical evaluation of entry requirements into engineering undergraduate programs in a Nigerian university is presented and carefully analyzed. A total sample of 1445 undergraduates that were admitted between 2005 and 2009 to study Chemical Engineering (CHE), Civil Engineering (CVE), Computer Engineering (CEN), Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), Information and Communication Engineering (ICE), Mechanical Engineering (MEE), and Petroleum Engineering (PET) at Covenant University, Nigeria were randomly selected. Entry age, SSCE aggregate, UTME score, Covenant University Scholastic Aptitude Screening (CUSAS) score, and the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of the undergraduates were obtained from the Student Records and Academic Affairs unit. In order to facilitate evidence-based evaluation, the robust dataset is made publicly available in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet file. On yearly basis, first-order descriptive statistics of the dataset are presented in tables. Box plot representations, frequency distribution plots, and scatter plots of the dataset are provided to enrich its value. Furthermore, correlation and linear regression analyses are performed to understand the relationship between the entry requirements and the corresponding academic performance in engineering programs. The data provided in this article will help Nigerian universities, the NUC, engineering regulatory bodies, and relevant stakeholders to objectively evaluate and subsequently improve the quality of engineering education in the country.
