Synthesis and crystal structure of a new hybrid organic-inorganic material containing neutral mol-ecules, cations and hepta-molybdate anions.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, hexa-kis-(2-methyl-1H-imidazol-3-ium) hepta-molybdate 2-methyl-1H-imidazole disolvate dihydrate, (C4H7N2)6[Mo7O24]·2C4H6N2·2H2O, was prepared from 2-methyl-imidazole and ammonium hepta-molybdate tetra-hydrate in acid solution. The [Mo7O24]6- hepta-molybdate cluster anion is accompanied by six protonated (C4H7N2)+ 2-methyl-imidazolium cations, two neutral C4H6N2 2-methyl-imidazole mol-ecules and two water mol-ecules of crystallization. The cluster consists of seven distorted MoO6 octa-hedra sharing edges or vertices. In the crystal, the components are linked by N-H?N, N-H?O, O-H?O, N-H?(O,O) and O-H?(O,O) hydrogen bonds, generating a three-dimensional network. Weak C-H?O inter-actions consolidate the packing.

Project description:We have determined the crystal structures of two deca-chloro-cyclo-penta-silanes, namely bis-(tetra-n-butyl-ammonium) dichloride deca-chloro-cyclo-penta-silane di-chloro-methane disolvate, 2C16H36N+·2Cl-·Si5Cl10·2CH2Cl2, (I), and bis-(tetra-ethyl-ammonium) dichloride deca-chloro-cyclo-penta-silane di-chloro-methane disolvate, 2C8H20N+·2Cl-·Si5Cl10·2CH2Cl2, (II), both of which crystallize with discrete cations, anions, and solvent mol-ecules. In (I), the complete deca-chloro-cyclo-penta-silane ring is generated by a crystallographic twofold rotation axis. In (II), one cation is located on a general position and the other two are disordered about centres of inversion. These are the first structures featuring the structural motif of a five-membered cyclo-penta-silane ring coordinated from both sides by a chloride ion. The extended structures of (I) and (II) feature numerous C-H?Cl inter-actions. In (II), the N atoms are located on centres of inversion and as a result, the ethyl-ene chains are disordered over equally occupied orientations.

Crystal structure of a 2:1 piroxicam-gentisic acid co-crystal featuring neutral and zwitterionic piroxicam mol-ecules.

Project description:A new 2:1 co-crystal of piroxicam and gentisic acid [systematic name: 4-hy-droxy-1,1-dioxo-N-(pyridin-2-yl)-2H-1?6,2-benzo-thia-zine-3-carboxamide-2-(4-oxido-1,1-dioxo-2H-1?6,2-benzo-thia-zine-3-amido)-pyridin-1-ium-2,5-di-hydroxy-benzoic acid, 2C15H13N3O4S·C7H6O4] has been synthesized using a microfluidic platform and initially identified using Raman spectroscopy. In the co-crystal, one piroxicam mol-ecule is in its neutral form and an intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond is observed. The other piroxicam mol-ecule is zwitterionic (proton transfer from the OH group to the pyridine N atom) and two intra-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds occur. The gentisic acid mol-ecule shows whole-mol-ecule disorder over two sets of sites in a 0.809?(2):0.191?(2) ratio. In the crystal, extensive hydrogen bonding between the components forms layers propagating in the ab plane.

Tetra-potassium hepta-cyanido-molybdate(III) dihydrate.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, K(I) (4)[Mo(III)(CN)(7)]·2H(2)O, consists of one [Mo(CN)(7)](4-) anion, four K(+) cations, and two water mol-ecules. The [Mo(III)(CN)(7)](4-) anion has a seven-coordinated capped-trigonal-prismatic coordination geometry. The site-occupancy factors of the disordered water mol-ecules were set at 0.90, 0.60 and 0.50. The H-atom positions could not be determined for two of the water mol-ecules. The H atoms of the water with a site-occupancy factor of 0.90 were refined using O-H and H⋯H distance restraints.

Low-temperature phase of hexaguanidinium hepta-molybdate monohydrate.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, [C(NH(2))(3)](6)[Mo(7)O(24)]·H(2)O, previously determined at room temperature in the monoclinic space group C2/c from Weissenberg techniques [Don & Weakley (1981 ▶). Acta Cryst. B37, 451-453], has been redetermined from low-temperature single-crystal data in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/c. The asymmetric unit contains one hepta-molybdate anion, six guanidinium cations and one water mol-ecule of hydration. The anions and cations are linked by an extensive network of N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Redetermination of hexa-sodium hepta-molybdate(VI) 14-hydrate.

Project description:The structure of the title compound, Na(6)(Mo(7)O(24))·14H(2)O, has been redetermined [Sjöbom & Hedman (1973). Acta Chem. Scand.27, 3673-3674] and the hydrogen atoms have been located. The Na(+) cations adopt distorted octa-hedral geometries and the structure of the [Mo(7)O(24)](6-) anion is consistent with those of other hepta-molbydates. In the crystal, numerous O-H?O hydrogen bonds help to establish the packing.

Constructing Stable and Potentially High-Performance Hybrid Organic-Inorganic Perovskites with "Unstable" Cations.

Project description:A new family of functional hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites (HOIPs) is theoretically designed based on the following chemical insights: when a proton is adhered to molecules like water or ethanol, the newly formed larger-sized cations (e.g., H5O2 +, C2H5OH2 +, and CH3SH+) entail low electron affinities mimicking superalkalis; they are conjugated acids of weak bases that cannot survive in solution, while their chemistry behavior in the HOIP frameworks, however, may be markedly different due to greatly enhanced cohesive energies of the proton, which facilitate the formation of new HOIPs. First-principles computations show that the putative formation reactions for these newly designed HOIPs typically release much more energy compared with the prevailing HOIP MAPbI3, suggesting the likelihood of facile solution-based fabrications, while the suppression of reverse formation suggests that the humidity stability may be markedly enhanced. During their formations, halide acids are unlikely to react with ethanol or methanethiol without the presence of metal halides, a condition further favoring their stability. The proposed structure of (H5O2)PbI3 may also clarify the origin of the long-speculated existence of HPbI3. Importantly, density functional theory computations suggest that many of these HOIPs possess not only direct bandgaps with values within the optimal range for solar light absorbing but also more desirable optical absorption spectra than that of MAPbI3, where their ferroelectric polarizations also benefit photovoltaics. The stability and photovoltaic efficiency may be even further improved for the newly designed two-dimensional (2D) HOIPs and 2D/3D hybrid HOIP structures.

Physico-chemical study of new supramolecular-architectured hybrid organic-inorganic sulfates incorporating diammoniumdiphenylsulfone cations.

Project description:Two new hybrid organic-inorganic compounds, which incorporate 3,3'-diammoniumdiphenylsulfone or 4,4'-diammoniumdiphenylsulfone cations and sulfate anions, were synthesized and analyzed in detail. The crystal structures of both systems were established using single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Crystallographic study revealed that the crystals of both investigated compounds were constructed of repeatedly occurring organic and inorganic layers and allowed the description of their structural features. Dense networks of N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds were found in both crystals. In addition, S-O⋯π contacts and weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds were identified in each analyzed crystal network. All intermolecular interactions were quantitatively described by Hirshfeld surface analysis. Furthermore, a 13C NMR study was conducted for the grown crystals. The functional groups present in the titular compounds were also the subjects of IR and Raman spectral studies. Finally, TGA/DSC and UV-vis absorption measurements were performed and allowed the thermal and optical characterization of the titular materials.

Coupling Methylammonium and Formamidinium Cations with Halide Anions: Hybrid Orbitals, Hydrogen Bonding, and the Role of Dynamics.

Project description:The electronic structures of four precursors for organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites, namely, methylammonium chloride and iodide, as well as formamidinium bromide and iodide, are investigated by X-ray emission (XE) spectroscopy at the carbon and nitrogen K-edges. The XE spectra are analyzed based on density functional theory calculations. We simulate the XE spectra at the Kohn-Sham level for ground-state geometries and carry out detailed analyses of the molecular orbitals and the electronic density of states to give a thorough understanding of the spectra. Major parts of the spectra can be described by the model of the corresponding isolated organic cation, whereas high-emission energy peaks in the nitrogen K-edge XE spectra arise from electronic transitions involving hybrids of the molecular and atomic orbitals of the cations and halides, respectively. We find that the interaction of the methylammonium cation is stronger with the chlorine than with the iodine anion. Furthermore, our detailed theoretical analysis highlights the strong influence of ultrafast proton dynamics in the core-excited states, which is an intrinsic effect of the XE process. The inclusion of this effect is necessary for an accurate description of the experimental nitrogen K-edge X-ray emission spectra and gives information on the hydrogen-bonding strengths in the different precursor materials.

The inorganic-organic hybrid material triethyl-enetetra-mmonium hexa-chlorido-rhodate(III) chloride.

Project description:SINGLE CRYSTALS OF THE NEW TITLE COMPOUND [SYSTEMATIC NAME: 1,4,7,10-tetra-zoniadecane hexa-chloridorhodate(III) chloride], [H(3)N(CH(2))(2)NH(2)(CH(2))(2)NH(2)(CH(2))(2)NH(3)][RhCl(6)]Cl, were obtained from the corresponding amine and rhodium trichloride in hydro-chloric acid solution by slow crystallization under diffusion-controlled conditions at room temperature. Its solid-state structure is defined by a three-dimensional framework of numerous electrostatic-supported N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds between the ionic components of the compound. Within this framework, layered arrangements of the complex ions on one hand and of the protonated amines and chloride ions on the other hand, can be recognized. The octahedral hexa-chloridorhodate(III) anion resides on a symmetry site, while the triethyl-enetetra-mmonium cation and the chloride ion both reside on twofold axes.

Ti/Au Cathode for Electronic transport material-free organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite solar cells.

Project description:We have fabricated organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite solar cell that uses a Ti/Au multilayer as cathode and does not use electron transport materials, and achieved the highest power conversion efficiency close to 13% with high reproducibility and hysteresis-free photocurrent curves. Our cell has a Schottky planar heterojunction structure (ITO/PEDOT:PSS/perovskite/Ti/Au), in which the Ti insertion layer isolate the perovskite and Au layers, thus proving good contact between the Au and perovskite and increasing the cells' shunt resistance greatly. Moreover, the Ti/Au cathode in direct contact with hybrid perovskite showed no reaction for a long-term exposure to the air, and can provide sufficient protection and avoid the perovskite and PEDOT:PSS layers contact with moisture. Hence, the Ti/Au based devices retain about 70% of their original efficiency after 300?h storage in the ambient environment.
