Crystal structure of bis-[di-hydro-bis-(pyrazol-1-yl)borato-?² N ²,N ^2'](1,10-phenanthroline-?² N,N')zinc(II).

ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Zn(C₆H₈N₄B)₂(C₁₂H₈N₂)], comprises one half of a Zn^II cation (site symmetry 2), one di-hydro-bis-(pyrazol-1-yl)borate ligand in a general position, and one half of a phenanthroline ligand, the other half being completed by twofold rotation symmetry. The Zn^II cation is coordinated in form of a slightly distorted octa-hedron by the N atoms of a phenanthroline ligand and by two pairs of N atoms of symmetry-related di-hydro-bis-(pyrazol-1-yl)borate ligands. The discrete complexes are arranged into columns that elongate in the c-axis direction with a parallel alignment of the phenanthroline ligands, indicating weak ?-? inter-actions.

Project description:The structure determination of the title compound was undertaken as part of a project on the modification and synthesis of new spin-crossover (SCO) compounds based on octa-hedral FeII bis-(pyrazol-yl)borate complexes. In the course of these investigations, the compound [Fe(C6H8BN4)2(C12H7BrN2)] was synthesized, for which magnetic measurements revealed an incomplete spin-crossover behaviour. Crystallization of this compound from toluene led to the formation of crystals of the toluene disolvate, [Fe(C6H8N4B)2(C12H7N2Br)]·2C7H8. Its asymmetric unit comprises two discrete metal complex mol-ecules and two toluene solvent mol-ecules. One of the latter is severely disordered and its contribution to the diffracted intensities was removed using the SQUEEZE routine [Spek (2015 ▸). Acta Cryst. C71, 9-18]. In each complex mol-ecule, the FeII cation is coordinated by the two N atoms of a 5-bromo-1,10-phenanthroline ligand and by two pairs of N atoms of chelating di-hydro-bis(pyrazol-1-yl)borate ligands in the form of a slightly distorted octa-hedron. The discrete complexes are arranged in columns along the a-axis direction with the toluene solvate mol-ecules located between the columns. The 5-bromo-1,10-phenanthroline ligands of neighbouring columns are approximately parallel and are slightly shifted relative to each other, indicating π-π inter-actions.

Crystal structure of bis-{(3,5-di-methyl-pyrazol-1-yl)di-hydro-[3-(pyridin-2-yl)pyrazol-1-yl]-borato}iron(II).

Project description:The structure determination of [Fe(C13H15BN5)2] was undertaken as part of a project on the modification of the recently published spin-crossover (SCO) complex [Fe{H2B(pz)(pypz)}2] (pz = pyrazole, pypz = pyridyl-pyrazole). To this end, a new ligand was synthesized in which two additional methyl groups are present. Its reaction with iron tri-fluoro-methane-sulfonate led to a pure sample of the title compound, as proven by X-ray powder diffraction. The asymmetric unit consists of one complex mol-ecule in a general position. The FeII atom is coordinated by two tridentate N-binding {H2B(3,5-(CH3)2-pz)(pypz)}- ligands. The Fe-N bond lengths range between 2.1222 (13) and 2.3255 (15) Å, compatible with FeII in the high-spin state, which was also confirmed by magnetic measurements. Other than a very weak C-H⋯N non-classical hydrogen bond linking individual mol-ecules into rows extending parallel to [010], there are no remarkable inter-molecular inter-actions.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title complex, [Zn(2)Cl(4)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)], each of the two five-coordinated Zn(II) atoms displays a strongly distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry defined by two N atoms from the chelate ligand and by one terminal and two bridging chloride anions. The crystal structure is stabilized by C-H⋯Cl inter-actions. There is inter-molecular π-π stacking between adjacent phenanthroline ligands, with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.151 (3) Å.

Project description:In the title compound, C16H8N6O2S2·2C2H6OS, the phenanthroline mol-ecule resides on a twofold axis, and the asymmetric unit also contains a slightly disordered [occupancy ratio for S atom of 0.95 (3):0.047 (3)] mol-ecule of dimethyl sulfoxide. The O atoms of the solvent mol-ecule accept hydrogen bonds from the N-H groups of the five-membered 2,3-di-hydro-1,3,4-oxa-diazole-2-thione ring. This ring is nearly coplanar with the phenanthroline ring, with a dihedral angle between their least-squares planes of 8.86 (6)°. In the crystal, the mol-ecules are linked by C-H⋯O inter-actions.

A tetra-gonal polymorph of bis-[hydro-tris-(pyrazol-1-yl)borato]iron(II).

Project description:The title compound, [Fe(C(9)H(10)BN(6))(2)], is a polymorph of a compound reported previously [Oliver et al. (1980 ?). Inorg. Chem.19, 165-168]. In the previous report, the compound crystallized in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/c (Z = 4), whereas the crystal symmetry of the compound reported here is tetra-gonal (P4(2)/ncm, Z = 4). The mol-ecular structure is comprised of two hydro-tris-(1-pyrazol-yl)borate ligands (Tp(-)) and a central Fe(II) ion, which is coordinated by six pyrazole N atoms from two two Tp(-) ligands, yielding a distorted bipyramidal FeN(6) geometry. The complete molecule exhibits symmetry 2/m.

Project description:The Zn atom in the title compound, [Zn(C(7)H(5)O(2))(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)], is five-coordinate in a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal coordination environment involving two O atoms of two monodentate benzoates, two N atoms of a 1,10-phenanthroline mol-ecule and one O atom of a water mol-ecule. The axial positions are occupied by a carboxyl-ate O atom from the benzoate ligand and an N atom from the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand [N-Zn-O = 146.90?(7)°]. The water mol-ecule forms an intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond; an inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond gives rise to a dimer.

Project description:In the title compound, [Zn(C(5)O(5))(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)], the Zn atom is in a slightly distorted octa-hedral environment. The mol-ecule lies across a twofold rotation axis, around which two 1,10-phenanthroline ligands are arranged. There are short contacts between the 1,10-phenanthroline groups and the O atoms of the croconate ligand, which probably stabilize the crystal structure via weak C-H⋯O interactions.

Project description:In the title complex, [Y(2)(C(5)H(6)O(4))(3)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)](n), three glutarate groups and two 1,10-phenanthroline mol-ecules surround the two Y(III) ions. Both Y(III) ions are coordinated by two N atoms from the 1,10-phenanthroline, seven O atoms from five glutarate groups in a distorted tricapped trigonal-prismatic geometry. The Y(III) ions are bridged by glutarate ligands in three modes, forming a layered, polymeric structure. The resulting layers are assembled by ?-? stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances = 3.740?(3) and 3.571?(3)?Å] into a three-dimensional supra-molecular architecture.
