The CGA arginine codon is a rare codon in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Thus, full-length mature protein synthesis from reporter genes with internal CGA codon repeats are markedly reduced, and the reporters, instead, produce short-sized polypeptides via an unknown mechanism.
