Propionic acidemia (PA), one of the most frequent life-threatening organic acidemias, is caused by mutations in either the <i>PCCA</i> or <i>PCCB</i> genes encoding both subunits of the mitochondrial propionyl-CoA carboxylase (PCC) enzyme.
