The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Aquarius elongatus (Hemiptera: Gerridae).

ABSTRACT: In this study, we report the complete mitochondrial genome of Aquarius elongatus. The mitogenome was 15,370 bp in length, comprising 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and a control region. Maximum-likelihood (ML) phylogenetic tree indicated that Aquarius elongatus has a close relationship with Aquarius paludum. In general, this study provides meaningful genetic information for A. elongatus.

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Gerres filamentosus was sequenced by high throughput sequencing method. Length of this genome is 16,795 bp, containing 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes and one large non-coding region. ND6 and eight tRNA genes are encoded by L-strand, and others are encoded by H-strand, which is similar to those in most vertebrates. Phylogenetic tree based on 13 protein-coding genes shows that the clade of G. filamentosus is closely clustered with that of Gerres oyena, and families Caproidae and Ephippidae have the closest relationship to Gerridae, comparing with Sillaginidae.

Complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Empoascanara dwalata (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Typhlocybinae).

Project description:In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of the leafhopper species Empoascanara dwalata (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Typhlocybinae) was sequenced and annotated, and the sequence is available in the GenBank with accession number: MT350235. The circular mitogenome with 15,271 bp in length, including 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes, and one AT-rich region. The nucleotide composition is as follows: A (41.7%), T (34.7%), G (10.6%), and C (13.0%). 11 PCGs have ATN as the start codon, except for atp8 and nad5 genes have TTG. The conventional termination codons (TAA or TAG) occur in 11 PCGs, while cox2 and nad5 use incomplete codon (T--) as termination codon. Phylogenetic analysis using 13 PCGs showed that E. dwalata was clustered with three other Typhlocybine species, which was consistent with the conventional classification.

The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Crenidorsum turpiniae (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae).

Project description:We determined the complete mitochondrial genomes of Crenidorsum turpiniae, a new record whitefly pest on tea-tree. The mitogenome of C. turpiniae is 15,427 bp long and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes and a putative control region (GenBank: MN934936). The whole base composition of the heavy strand for A, C, G and T is 30%, 12.24%, 15.82% and 41.87%, respectively, with an AT bias (-16%). All PCGs use ATN as start codon (N, any nucleotide), except for NAD6 uses TTG. Most of the PCGs use TAA as a stop codon. The length of 16SrRNA and 12SrRNA gene are 1277 bp and 768 bp, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that C. turpiniae and Tetraleurodes acaciae had a closer genetic relationship.

The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Diaphorina citri (Hemiptera: Psyllidae).

Project description:The first complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) sequence of Asian citrus psyllid, Diaphorina citri (Hemiptera: Psyllidae) from Guangzhou, China, is presented. The circular mitogenome is 14,996 bp in length with an A + T content of 74.5%, and contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA genes (tRNAs), two rRNA genes and an AT-rich control region. Synteny was identical to the ancestral insect mitogenomes. All PCGs start with 'ATN' codons. Eleven PCGs use the complete termination codons ('TAA' or 'TAG'), while the remaining two (cox2 and nad5) use a single 'T' as the stop codon. All tRNAs have the typical cloverleaf structure, except for trnTrp which lacks the variable arm and trnSer (AGN) which lacks the dihydrouridine arm. A phylogenetic tree, including 12 members of Sternorrhyncha, was constructed based on the 13 PCGs sequences. The resulting phylogenetic tree matched the established taxonomic scheme based on morphology.

Analysis of the complete Fischoederius elongatus (Paramphistomidae, Trematoda) mitochondrial genome.

Project description:BackgroundFischoederius elongates is an important trematode of Paramphistomes in ruminants. Animals infected with F. elongates often don't show obvious symptoms, so it is easy to be ignored. However it can cause severe economic losses to the breeding industry. Knowledge of the mitochondrial genome of F. elongates can be used for phylogenetic and epidemiological studies.FindingsThe complete mt genome sequence of F. elongates is 14,120 bp in length and contains 12 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes and two non-coding regions (LNR and SNR). The gene arrangement of F. elongates is the same as other trematodes, such as Fasciola hepatica and Paramphistomum cervi. Phylogenetic analyses using concatenated amino acid sequences of the 12 protein-coding genes by Maximum-likelihood and Neighbor-joining analysis method showed that F. elongates was closely related to P. cervi.ConclusionThe complete mt genome sequence of F. elongates should provide information for phylogenetic and epidemiological studies for F. elongates and the family Paramphistomidae.

The complete mitogenome sequence of P. maidis was observed to be a circular molecule 16,279?bp long and consisting of 13 protein-coding genes (PCG), 2 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes and 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes (GenBank accession no. MG049917). The nucleotide composition is biased toward adenine and thymine (77.8% A?+?T). The A?+?T-rich region was found between rrnS and trnI, and this entire region was 1596?bp long.

The Complete Mitochondrial Genome of Ugyops sp. (Hemiptera: Delphacidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Ugyops sp. (Hemiptera: Delphacidae) was sequenced, making it the first determined mitogenome from the subfamily Asiracinae, the basal clade of the family Delphacidae. The mitogenome was 15,259 bp in length with A + T content of 77.65% and contained 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), two ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), and a control region. The gene order was identical with that of the ancestral insect. The nucleotide composition analysis indicated that the whole mitogenome was strongly A-skewed (0.288) and highly C-skewed (-0.270). For PCGs on the J-strand, the AT skew was positive, and the GC skew was negative. All PCGs started with canonical ATN codons, except for cox1 and nad5, which used CTG and GTG as start codon, respectively. All tRNAs could fold into typical cloverleaf secondary structures, with the exception of trnS1 (AGN), in which the dihydrouridine arm was reduced to a simple loop. The control region included a poly-T stretch downstream of the small rRNA gene (rrnS), a subregion of higher A + T content and tandemly repeated sequence near trnI. The mitogenome of Ugyops sp. could be very helpful in exploring the diversity and evolution of mitogenomes in Delphacidae.

The architecture and complete sequence of mitochondrial genome of an assassin bug Agriosphodrus dohrni (Hemiptera: Reduviidae).

Project description:The 16, 470 bp nucleotide sequence of the mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of an assassin bug from the reduviid subfamily Harpactorinae, Agriosphodrus dohrni, has been revealed. The entire genome encodes for two ribosomal RNA genes (rrnL and rrnS), 22 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes, 13 protein-coding genes, and a control region. The nucleotide composition is biased toward adenine and thymine (A+T = 72.2%). Comparative analysis with two other reduviid species Triatoma dimidiata and Valentia hoffmanni, exhibited highly conserved genome architectures including genome contents, gene order, nucleotide composition, codon usage, amino acid composition, as well as genome asymmetry. All protein-coding genes use standard mitochondrial initiation codons (methionine and isoleucine), except that nad1 starts with GTG. All tRNAs have the classic clover-leaf structure, except that the dihydrouridine (DHU) arm of tRNA(Ser(AGN)) forms a simple loop. Secondary structure comparisons of the two mitochondrial ribosomal subunits among sequenced assassin bugs show that the sequence and structure of rrnL is more conservative than that of rrnS. The presence of structural elements in the control region is also discussed, with emphasis on their implications in the regulation of replication and/or transcription of the reduviid mitogenome. The phylogenetic analyses indicated that within Reduviidae, Harpactorinae is a sister group to the Salyavatinae + Triatominae clade.

The complete mitochondrial genome of bobo croaker Pseudotolithus elongatus (Perciformes: Sciaenidae).

Project description:The complete mitochondrial genome of Pseudotolithus elongatus (Perciformes: Sciaenidae) is determined based on NGS technology. The assembled mitogenome is a 16,497 bp in length containing a typical set of the 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNAs, 2 rRNA genes, and the 1 putative control region. The overall base composition is A (27.8%), T (25.3%), G (16.1%), and C (30.8%) with an A-T content of 53.1%. The phylogenetic analysis of 36 mitogenomes from the GenBank indicated that P. elongatus is closely related to the Aplodinotus grunniens. This mitogenome information of the P. elongatus would be useful to understand evolutionary and phylogenetic analysis of the family Sciaenidae fishes.

The phylogenetic analyses based on concatenated thirteen protein-coding genes of mitogenomes recover the monophyly of Auchenorrhyncha (Fulgoromorpha + Cicadomorpha) and Sternorrhyncha as a sister group to Auchenorrhyncha. The complete mitogenome sequence of Idioscopus nitidulusis available in the GenBank with accession number: KR024406.
