Spinach and Broccoli are fluorogenic RNA aptamers that bind DFHBI, a mimic of the chromophore in green fluorescent protein, and activate its fluorescence. Spinach/Broccoli-DFHBI complexes exhibit high fluorescence in vitro, but they exhibit lower fluorescence in mammalian cells.
