The complete chloroplast genome of Camellia grijsii 'zhenzhucha', a variant cultivar with floral aroma.

ABSTRACT: Camellia grijsii 'zhenzhucha' is a variant cultivar from Camellia grijsii, which is also called Camellia grijsii 'juhuacha'.C. grijsii 'zhenzhucha' is an ornamental shrub with a floral aroma, and is oftenused in landscape. To provide genetic information for genetic research, we have sequenced and assembled the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of C. grijsii 'zhenzhucha' based on the Illumina Hiseq platform. The assembled complete cp genome of C. grijsii 'zhenzhucha' was 161,478 bp in length with 37.24% GC, including a large single-copy (LSC) region of 59,942 bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 17,294 bp, and a pair of inverted repeats (IRs) of 20,293 bp. The cp genome was annotated with 130 functional genes, consisting of 81 protein-coding genes, 45 transporter RNAs, and 4 ribosomal RNAs. To obtain the phylogeny relationship, the cp genome of C. grijsii 'zhenzhucha'has been compared with other Camellia species, and the results indicate that C. grijsii 'zhenzhucha' is closely related to C. grijsii. This study provides fundamental information of C. grijsii 'zhenzhucha' cp genome, and has an important reference value for the evolutionary analysis.

Project description:Camellia grijsii is an ornamental shrub with a floral aroma, which is widely cultivated and used for landscaping in China. To obtain the genetic information of C. grijsii, we have sequenced and assembled the complete chloroplast (cp) genome based on the Illumina Hiseq platform. The total genome size is 161,078 bp in length with 37.18% GC, which contains a large single copy (LSC, 84,645 bp) region, a small single copy (SSC, 15,772 bp) region, and a pair of inverted repeat (IRs, 30,330 bp) regions. It is composed of 81 protein-coding genes, 4 ribosomal RNAs, and 43 transfer RNAs. The cp genome of C. grijsii has also been compared with other species of Camellia, and the results showed that the C. grijsii and the C. grandbibracteata are closely related. This study provides the complete cp genome of C. grijsii and has an important reference value for the evolutionary analysis.

Project description:For obtaining the sequence and phylogenetic position of Camellia sinensis cultivar 'Baiye1', the complete chloroplast genome was determined. This chloroplast genome is 156,691?bp in length with overall GC content of 37.3%. It was comprised of a large single-copy (LSC) region of 86,585bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 18,276bp, and two inverted repeat (IR) regions of 26,083?bp. It contains 87 protein-coding, 8 rRNA, and 35 tRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis showed 'Baiye1' and C. sinensis cv. 'Longjing43' were clustered into a group. These results may contribute to the further understanding of the albino phenotype and genetic evolution.

Project description:Camellia sinensis var. sinensis cultivar Tieguanyin (TGY) is an important Oolong tea variety in China. In this study, we reported a complete chloroplast (cp) genome based on the Illumina sequencing technology and combined de novo and reference-guided assembly strategies. The complete cp genome of 'TGY' displayed the regular quadripartite structure: a total of 157,126 bp in length, comprising a large single-copy (LSC, 86,904 bp) region, a small single-copy (SSC, 18,532 bp) region, and a pair of inverted repeats (IRs, 26,095 bp) regions. A lot of 132 predicted genes, including 87 protein-coding genes, 37 tRNA genes, and eight rRNA genes. The overall GC content is 37.3%. Maximum likelihood (ML) phylogenetic tree involving 18 cp genomes of the Camellia genus revealed a relatively independent event of local domestication among three types of cultivars. The complete cp genome of 'TGY' provides an insight into tea plants for further understanding evolutionary research on tea plants.

Complete chloroplast genome of a cultivated oil camellia species, Camellia gigantocarpa.

Project description:Camellia gigantocarpa Hu et T. C. Huang, belonging to the Theaceae family, is an excellent landscape tree species with high ornamental value. It is also an important woody oil-bearing plant with high economic value. This study reports the first complete chloroplast genome sequence of C. gigantocarpa (GenBank accession number: MZ054232). Its whole chloroplast genome is 156,953 bp long with an overall GC content of 37.31%, which is composed of a large single copy region (86,631 bp), a small single copy region (18,402 bp), and a pair of inverted repeat regions (25,960 bp each). A total of 135 genes were predicted in this genome, namely eight ribosomal RNA genes, 37 transfer RNA genes, and 90 protein-coding genes. Based on maximum likelihood analysis results, we found that the Camellia species are clustered into a distinct branch, and the phylogenetic relationships among C. gigantocarpa, C. crapnelliana, and C. kissii were the closest.

Project description:The complete chloroplast genome sequence of Camellia sinensis L. cultivar Sangmok was determined using high-throughput sequencing technology. We sequenced Sangmok chloroplast genome and performed comparative with 21 published other Camellia and species from different genus for phylogenetic analysis. Chloroplast genome was 153,044 bp in length, containing a pair of 24,627 bp inverted repeat (IR) regions, which were separated by small and large single-copy regions (SSC and LSC) of 19,155 and 64,665 bp, respectively. The chloroplast genome contained 97 genes (63 protein-coding genes, 29 tRNA genes, and 5 rRNA genes). The overall GC content of the chloroplast genome was 37.2%. The phylogenetic analysis among species in number of the genus Camellia provided that C. sinensis L. cultivar Sangmok is closely related to KJ806277 Camellia pubicosta.

Project description:Camellia yuhsienensis Hu is an economically valuable species in the genus Camellia. It is widely used for breeding ornaments and oil varieties. In this study, the complete chloroplast (cp) genome sequence of C. yuhsienensis is assembled and annotated. The whole cp genome of C. yuhsienensis is 156,912 bp in size, composed of a small single copy (SSC) region of 18,296 bp and a large single copy (LSC) region of 86,560 bp, separated by a pair of inverted repeats (IRs, IRA: 86,561-112,588; IRB: 130,885-156,912). The overall GC content of C. yuhsienensis cp genome is 37.3%, with the base content A (31.08%), T (31.63%), C (19.02%), and G (18.27%). The phylogenetic analysis of 15 Camellia species based on 77 protein-coding genes shows that C. yuhsienensis is evolutionarily close to Camellia taliensis.

The cp genome contained 134 genes, including 91 coding genes, six rRNA genes, and 37 tRNA genes. The overall GC content of the chloroplast genome was 37.3%. Phylogenetic analysis revealed the position of C. japonica being sister to the clade containing C. crapnelliana and C. oleifera (subgenus Camellia).

Here, we report on the chloroplast genomes of C. nitidissima var. nitidissima from Fangcheng (GenBank accession MT157617) and Nanning (MT157618), as well as one sample of C. nitidissima var. microcarpa (MT157619) from Nanning. The total chloroplast genomes of C. nitidissima var. nitidissima Fangcheng and Nanning samples are 156,596 bp and 157,567 bp in length, respectively. C. nitidissima var. microcarpa (MT157619) genome is 157,407 bp in length. The three samples possess GC contents of 37.3%, 128 genes, comprising 86 protein-coding genes, 34 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes.
