ABSTRACT: Mycobacterium smegmatis, an acid-fast bacterial species in the phylum Actinobacteria, has often been used as a substitute for pathogenic mycobacteria in research. Here, we describe the isolation and characterization of two M. smegmatis bacteriophages, Penelope2018 and Miniwave.

Project description:Mycobacterium phages Mikro, Yorick, Virgeve, and MelsMeow were isolated from soil in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Mikro is a myovirus with a comparatively large genome of 157,166 bp. The remainder are siphoviruses with genome lengths ranging from 59,227 bp to 68,563 bp. All phages were isolated on Mycobacterium smegmatis.

Bacteriophages infecting members of the phylum Bacteroidetes, however, have not been well represented in public genome databases. Here we announce the genome sequences of two bacteriophages, P12024S and P12024L, that were isolated from coastal seawater and lytically infect Persicivirga sp. IMCC12024, a marine Bacteroidetes bacterium.

Complete Genome Sequences of Two Citrobacter rodentium Bacteriophages, CR8 and CR44b.

Project description:The complete genomes of two virulent phages infecting Citrobacter rodentium are reported here for the first time. Both bacteriophages were isolated from local sewage treatment plant effluents. Genome analyses revealed a close relationship between both phages and allowed their classification as members of the Autographivirinae subfamily in the T7-like genus.

Project description:Helicobacter pylori causes peptic ulcers and gastric cancer, which lead to significantly higher morbidity in Japan than elsewhere in the world. As bacteriophage (phage) and host bacteria coevolve, the study of H. pylori phages is important to extend understanding of the evolution and pathogenesis of H. pylori. Here we report two complete genome sequences of H. pylori phages KHP30 and KHP40, which were released spontaneously from the most pathogenic East Asian-type isolates from Japanese patients.
