[2,5-Bis(di-propyl-amino)-4-(hy-droxy-meth-yl)phen-yl]methanol.

ABSTRACT: The centrosymmetric title compound, C₂₂H₃₆N₂O₂, was prepared in five steps from diethyl succinate. The di-propyl-amino groups are almost orthogonal to the central phenyl-enedi-methanol ring [dihedral angle = 87.62 (9)°]. In the crystal, the mol-ecules are connected by O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, forming (101) layers separated by the propyl chains.

Project description:The title compound, 2C(21)H(19)N(3)O(2)·H(2)O, was synthesized by a Schiff base condensation of 2,6-diformyl-pyridine with 2-amino-4-methyl-phenol in ethanol. In the crystal, two mol-ecules of 2,6-bis-[(2-hy-droxy-5-methyl-phen-yl)imino-meth-yl]pyridine dimer-ize via hydrogen bonding to a water mol-ecule, which lies on a twofold axis. There are also intra-molecular phenol-imine hydrogen bonds. The dimers are further linked via π-π (phen-yl-pyridine) [centroid-centroid distance = 3.707 (2) Å] and π-π edge-to-edge [3.392 (2) Å] inter-actions. The dihedral angles between the central ring and the two pendant rings are 11.46 (8) and 2.06 (8)° while the pendant rings make a dihedral angle of 10.14 (8)°.

Project description:In the title compound, C(26)H(24)O(2), the crowded naphthalene ring system is essentially planar [maximum deviation of 0.027 (2) Å for one of the C atoms of the unsubstituted ring]. In the crystal, mol-ecules are connected by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into chains along the a axis. Pairs of the oppositely oriented chains are further cross-linked by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming infinte bands of alternating R(4) (4)(8) dimers and R(2) (2)(14) motifs.

Project description:The here crystallized oxamide was previously characterized as an unsolvated species [Jímenez-Pérez et al. (2000 ▸). J. Organomet. Chem. 614-615, 283-293], and is now reported with methanol as a solvent of crystallization, C30H44N2O4·CH3OH, in a different space group. The introduction of the solvent influences neither the mol-ecular symmetry of the oxamide, which remains centrosymmetric, nor the mol-ecular conformation. However, the unsolvated mol-ecule crystallized as an ordered system, while many parts of the solvated crystal are disordered. The hy-droxy group in the oxamide is disordered over two chemically equivalent positions, with occupancies 0.696 (4):0.304 (4); one tert-butyl group is disordered by rotation about the C-C bond, and was modelled with three sites for each methyl group, each one with occupancy 1/3. Finally, the methanol solvent, which lies on a twofold axis, is disordered by symmetry. The disorder affecting hy-droxy groups and the solvent of crystallization allows the formation of numerous supra-molecular motifs using four hydrogen bonds, with N-H and O-H groups as donors and the oxamide and methanol mol-ecule as acceptors.

Project description:In the title compound, C(17)H(20)N(2)O(3), the amino N atom is in a planar environment (sum of angles = 360.0°). All hy-droxy H atoms are involved in hydrogen bonding. In the crystal structure, two O-H?O and an O-H?N(imino) hydrogen bond result in the formation of a three-dimensional network. The latter hydrogen bonding causes distortion of the planarity of the 4-HO-C(6)H(4)-CH=N-C(6)H(4)- fragment by rotation around the =N-C(Ph) bond. The crystal studied was a non-merohedral twin [refined BASF parameter for the major component = 0.5293?(7)].

Intra- as well as inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds are observed, the latter giving rise to the formation of centrosymmetric dimers.
