Project description:In the title compound, C(10)H(8)N(2)O(10)·2H(2)O, the skeleton of the dicarboxylic acid mol-ecule is approximately planar, the largest deviation being 0.477?(1)?Å for an O atom of a nitro group; this nitro group is twisted out of the plane of the ring by 24.6?(1)°. Adjacent mol-ecules are linked by O-H?O hydrogen bonds, which connect the dicarboxylic acid and water mol-ecules into a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.

2,5-Dimethyl-1,3-dinitro-benzene.

Project description:The title compound, C(8)H(8)N(2)O(4), was prepared via the nitration of p-xylene. The mol-ecules are stacked along the c axis in an antiparallel manner. The two nitro groups are rotated relative to the benzene ring with dihedral angles of 44.50?(7) and 31.67?(8)°. The tilt of the nitro groups allows the formation of C-H?O inter-actions between the ring C-H and nitro groups of adjacent mol-ecules creating puckered sheets perpendicular to the c axis. The H atoms of the methyl group in the 5-position are disordered (60° rotation) with an occupancy of 0.616?(19) for the major component. The crystal was found to be a non-merohedral twin with a twin law [-1 -0.002 0.005, 0.00031 -1 0.002, 0.118 -0.007 1] corresponding to a rotation of 180° about the reciprocal axis (001) and refined to give a minor component fraction of 0.320?(2).

All three hy-droxy groups are involved in the formation of bifurcated intra- and inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds. The crystal packing exhibits short O?O distances of 2.823?(2)?Å between two O atoms of the nitro groups.

One K(+) ion is coordinated by seven O atoms from the sulfonate and phenolic hy-droxy groups of six 4,6-dihy-droxy-benzene-1,3-disulfonate (L(2-)) anions while the other K(+) ion is coordinated by six O atoms from the sulfonate and phenolic hy-droxy groups of five L(2-) anions and one water O atom. The L(2-) anion exhibits chelating-bridging multidentate coordination to potassium, resulting in the formation of a cross-linked three-dimensional network.

Project description:The skeletons of both independent mol-ecules of the carboxylic acid hemihydrate, C(10)H(8)N(2)O(10)·0.5H(2)O, are approximately planar [maximum deviations 0.642?(3) and 0.468?(1)?Å]. The deviations arise from the twisting of the nitro groups with respect to the aromatic rings [dihedral angles = 3.24?(2) and 27.01?(1), and 7.87?(1) and 16.37?(2)° in the two molecules]. The crystal structure features inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds, which the link the dicarboxylic acid and water mol-ecules into a supra-molecular layer network.

Project description:In the structure of the phenolate salt of the sulfa drug sulfamethazine with 3,5-dinitro-salicylic acid, C12H15N4O2S(+)·C7H3N2O7 (-), the dihedral angle between the pyrimidine and benzene rings of the cation is 59.70?(17)°. In the crystal, cation-anion hydrogen-bonding inter-actions involving pyrim-idine-carb-oxy N(+)-H?O and amine-carb-oxy N-H?O pairs give a cyclic R 2 (2)(8) motif while secondary N-H?O hydrogen bonds between the aniline group and both sulfone and nitro O-atom acceptors give a two-dimensional structure extending in (001).

Project description:The title compound, C(12)H(8)N(2)O(5), was obtained by the reaction of 1-chloro-2,4-dinitro-benzene and phenol in the presence of potassium carbonate. The nitro-substituted benzene ring lies on a mirror plane, with one NO(2) group in the same plane and the other disordered across this plane. The phenoxy-benzene unit is placed perpendicular to this mirror, resulting in an exact orthogonal relationship between the phenyl and benzene rings in the mol-ecule. The crystal packing exhibits no significantly short inter-molecular contacts.

A three-dimensional network is formed in the crystal structure through O-H?O, N-H?O and N-H?N hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The title compound, C3H5N3O8, was synthesized by reacting 2-nitro-propane-1,3-diol with acetyl nitrate. The mol-ecule is bisected by a crystallograpic mirror plane. In the crystal, the mol-ecules pack in a ribbon-like fashion along the c axis, with the central nitro groups pointing in the same direction. C-H?O contacts apparently provide some additional packing stabilization.
