Catena-Poly[[diaqua-bis-[2-(4-tolyl-sulfanyl)acetato-?O]manganese(II)]-?-4,4'-bipyridine-?N:N'].

ABSTRACT: In the polymeric title complex, [Mn(C(9)H(9)O(2)S)(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)(2)](n), the Mn(2+) cation and the 4,4'-bipyridine ligand lie on a twofold rotation axis. The cation has an MnN(2)O(4) octa-hedral environment, being coordinated by the O atoms of two water mol-ecules and two monodentate (4-tolyl-sulfan-yl)acetate anions, and by two N atoms of two 4,4'-bipyridine ligands. The latter bridge adjacent cations into linear chains parallel to [010]. The chains are further linked with each other into a two-dimensional network parallel to (100) via inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The title complex, {[Mn(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(2)](C(14)H(9)O(4)S(2))(2)}(n), contains an octa-hedrally coordinated Mn(II) cation and 2-(2-carboxy-phenyl-disulfan-yl)benzoate anions. The Mn(II) center is situated on a crystallographic center of inversion and is coordinated by four 4,4'-bipyridine (4,4'-bipy) ligands and two water mol-ecules. The 4,4'-bipy ligands act as bridging ligands, producing a fishing-net-like two-dimensional framework. In the crystal structure, this positively charged framework is charge balanced by 2-(2-carboxy-phenyl-disulfan-yl)benzoate anions that form a separate anionic two-dimensional framework via inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and C-H⋯π stacking inter-actions. Additional inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the cationic and anionic frameworks to form the three-dimensional crystal structure.

Project description:The title compound, {[Mn(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)(4)](C(9)H(7)O(3))(2)·2H(2)O}(n), was obtained by the hydro-thermal reaction of manganese chloride with mixed 3-hydroxy-lcinnamic acid (H(2)L) and 4,4'-bipyridine (4,4'-bipy) ligands. The structure contains [Mn(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)(4)](2+) cations with the Mn(II) atoms lying on a centres of inversion and bridged into a linear chain along the a axis by 4,4'-bipy ligands, surrounded by HL(-) anions and uncoordinated water mol-ecules. Extensive O-H?O hydrogen-bonding and weak ?-? inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.7572 ?(3)?Å] between the constituents lead to the formation of a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.

A twofold inter-penetrated primitive cubic supra-molecular network is formed by the inter-action of pseudo-layers by hydrogen bonding between aqua ligands and unligated 4,4'-bipyridine mol-ecules.
