Catena-Poly[[bis(pyridine)-lead(II)]bis(?-penta-fluoro-benzene-thiol-ato)].

ABSTRACT: The title compound, [Pb(C(6)F(5)S)(2)(C(5)H(5)N)(2)](n), shows the Pb(II) atom in a ?-trigonal bipyramidal S(2)N(2) bonding environment. Pyridine N atoms occupy axial sites, while thiol-ate S atoms and a stereochemically active lone pair occupy equatorial sites. Very long inter-molecular Pb?S inter-actions [3.618?(4) and 3.614?(4)?Å] yield a weakly associated one-dimensional polymeric structure extending parallel to [010].

Symmetry-related Cd(II) ions are linked via bridging 1,3-di-4-pyridylpropane ligands, forming a zig-zag chain-structure parallel to [001]. In the crystal structure, there are weak intra-chain π-π stacking inter-actions between benzene rings, with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.825 (7) Å, and pairs of chains are inter-digitated with respect to the 4-methyl-benzene-thiol-ate groups.

An intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond stabilizes the conformation of the mol-ecule. The crystal packing is consolidated by inter-molecular O-H⋯O, O-H⋯N and O-H⋯S hydrogen bonds, π-π inter-actions [with centroid-centroid distances of 3.587 (2) Å] together with weak C-H⋯π inter-actions. Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title polymeric compound, [Zn(3)(C(10)H(8)O(4))(3)(C(5)H(5)N)(2)](n) or [Zn(3)(dmbdc)(3)(py)(2)](n) (dmbdc = 2,5-dimethyl-benzene-dicarboxyl-ate; py = pyridine) contains two Zn(II) ions, one of which is located on an inversion centre, one and a half 2,5-dimethyl-benzene-dicarboxyl-ate ligands and one pyridine ligand. Each ZnO(6) octa-hedron is sandwiched between two ZnO(4)N square-pyramids, forming a trinuclear zinc secondary building unit (SBU); each SBU is further linked by six 2,5-dimethyl-benzene-dicarboxyl-ate ligands with six adjacent trinuclear zinc SBU's, forming a two-dimensional layer structure with a (3,6) net. One of the three zinc ions is octa-hedrally coordinated and the other two are square-pyramidally coordinated. The coordination modes for 2,5-dimethyl-benzene-dicarboxyl-ates are bis-(bidentate) or bidentate-tridentate.

Project description:The title one-dimensional coordination polymer, [Zn(C9H4O6)(C5H5N)2] n or [Zn(HBTC)(py)2] n , (I), where BTC is benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate and py is pyridine, is a solvent-free polymorph of [Zn(HBTC)(py)2]·2C2H5OH [Yaghi et al. (1997 ▶). Chem. Mater. 9, 1074-1076]. Differences in the spatial arrangements and supra-molecular packing of the [Zn(HBTC)(py)2] n chains in the two structures are described. The chain in (I) extends parallel to [100] and is severely puckered, with a Zn⋯Zn distance of 8.3599 (3) Å and a Zn⋯Zn⋯Zn angle of 107.516 (3)°, as a result of hydrogen-bonding inter-actions of the types O-H⋯O and C-H⋯O. There is no evidence for π-π inter-actions in (I). The differences between the solvent-free and solvent-containing structures can be accounted for by the absence of the ethanol solvent mol-ecule and the use of the converging pair of O atoms in the bis-monodentate bridging HBTC(2-) ligand in (I).
