Potassium ditin(IV) tris-[phosphate(V)], KSn(2)(PO(4))(3).

ABSTRACT: The title compound, KSn(2)(PO(4))(3), belongs to the NASICON-type family of phosphates with the space group R[Formula: see text]. Its structure is constructed by very regular [with P-O distances ranging from 1.513?(6) to 1.522?(6)?Å] PO(4) tetra-hedra and SnO(6) octa-hedra on the 3. axis, which are linked by O atoms, forming an [Sn(2)(PO(4))(3)] framework. The K atoms occupy the [Formula: see text]. axis sites and are located in the voids of this arrangement. The crystal studied was a merohedral twin with twin law (010 100 00[Formula: see text]) and a component ratio of 0.580?(7):0.420?(7).

Project description:The mixed-valent titanium phosphate, Li(2)Ti(2)(PO(4))(3), has been prepared by the reactive halide flux method. The title compound is isostructural with Li(2)TiM(PO(4))(3) (M = Fe, Cr) and Li(2)FeZr(PO(4))(3) and has the same (3) (?)[Ti(2)(PO(4))(3)](2-) framework as the previously reported Li(3-) (x)M(2)(PO(4))(3) phases. The framework is built up from corner-sharing TiO(6) octa-hedra and PO(4) tetra-hedra, one of which has 2 symmetry. The Li(+) ions are located on one crystallographic position and reside in the vacancies of the framework. They are surrounded by four O atoms in a distorted tetra-hedral coordination. The classical charge-balance of the title compound can be represented as Li(+) (2)(Ti(3+)/Ti(4+))(PO(4) (3-))(3).

Potassium nickel(II) gallium phosphate hydrate, K[NiGa(2)(PO(4))(3)(H(2)O)(2)].

Project description:The title compound, potassium nickel(II) digallium tris-(phosphate) dihydrate, K[NiGa(2)(PO(4))(3)(H(2)O)(2)], was synthesized hydro-thermally. The structure is constructed from distorted trans-NiO(4)(H(2)O)(2) octa-hedra linked through vertices and edges to GaO(5) trigonal bipyramids and PO(4) tetra-hedra, forming a three-dimensional framework of formula [NiGa(2)(PO(4))(3)(H(2)O)(2)](-). The K, Ni and one P atom lie on special positions (Wyckoff position 4e, site symmetry 2). There are two sets of channels within the framework, one running parallel to the [10] direction and the other parallel to [001]. These inter-sect, forming a three-dimensional pore network in which the water mol-ecules coordinated to the Ni atoms and the K(+) ions required to charge balance the framework reside. The K(+) ions lie in a highly distorted environment surrounded by ten O atoms, six of which are closer than 3.1Å. The coordinated water mol-ecules are within hydrogen-bonding distance to O atoms of bridging Ga-O-P groups.

A toxicogenomics approach to screen chlorinated flame retardants tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphate and tris(2-chloroisopropyl) phosphate for potential health effects

Project description:Tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP) is a pervasive flame retardant that has been identified as a chemical of concern given its health effects and therefore its use has since been tightly regulated. Tris(2-chloroisopropyl) phosphate (TCIPP), an analogue of TCEP, is believed to be its replacement. However, compared to TCEP, little is known of the toxicological impacts of TCIPP. We used RNA sequencing as unbiased and sensitive tool to identify and compare effects on a transcriptome level of TCEP and TCIPP in the human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line, HepG2. We identified that compared to other flame retardants, TCEP and TCIPP had little cytotoxicity. Treatment with sub-cytotoxic concentrations of the two compounds revealed that both chemicals elicited similar effects; both compounds were found to affect genes involved in immune responses and steroid hormone biosynthesis, while also affecting xenobiotic metabolism pathways in a similar manner. Specifically for effects on immune responses, both compounds were shown to alter the expression of the receptor of the potent and pleiotropic complement component, C5a. Additionally, expression of genes encoding for effector proteins involved in the complement cascade along with other potent inflammatory regulators were found altered in response to TCEP and TCIPP, further emphasizing their potential effects on immune function. Taken together, given that TCIPP elicited similar effects compared to TCEP, and at lower concentrations, the potential health effects of TCIPP need to be further studied for a complete risk assessment of the compound.

The type IV polymorph of KEu(PO(3))(4).

Project description:Single crystals of KEu(PO(3))(4), potassium europium(III) polyphosphate, were obtained by solid-state reactions. This monoclinic form is the second polymorph described for this composition and belongs to type IV of long-chain polyphosphates with general formula A(I)B(III)(PO(3))(4). It is isotypic with its KEr(PO(3))(4) and KDy(PO(3))(4) homologues. The crystal structure is built of infinite helical chains of corner-sharing PO(4) tetra-hedra with a repeating unit of eight tetra-hedra. These chains are further linked by isolated EuO(8) square anti-prisms, forming a three-dimensional framework. The K(+) ions are located in pseudo-hexa-gonal channels running along [01] and are surrounded by nine O atoms in a distorted environment.

Nickel(II) uranium(IV) tris-ulfide.

Project description:Crystals of NiUS3 were obtained from the reaction of the elements Ni, U, S, and of GeI2 in a CsCl flux at 1173?K. Nickel(II) uranium(IV) tris-ulfide, NiUS3, has ortho-rhom-bic (Pnma) symmetry and crystallizes in the GdFeO3 structure type. The compound has a perovskite ABQ 3-like structure, with U occupying the inter-stitial sites of a NiS6 framework. The U atoms are coordinated by eight S atoms in a distorted bicapped trigonal-prismatic arrangement. The Ni atoms are coordinated by six S atoms in a slightly distorted octa-hedral arrangement. The asymmetric unit comprises one U site (site symmetry .m.), one Ni site (-1), and two S sites (1 and .m.).

Potassium chlorido-tris-(hypersil-oxy)aluminate dimer.

Project description:The tris-(tri-methyl-silylsiloxide) ligand, also known as hypersiloxide, is an extremely bulky group. In an attempt to make the monomeric Al(OSi(SiMe3)3)3, AlCl3 was combined with 3 equiv. of potassium hypersiloxide. The crystalline product isolated (40% yield), namely di-μ3-chlorido-bis-[μ2-tris-(tri-methyl-sil-yl)silanolato]tetra-kis-[tris-(tri-methyl-sil-yl)silanolato]dialuminium-dipotassium, [Al2K2Cl2(C19H27OSi4)6], is a KCl adduct of aluminium tris(hypersilyloxide) that is dimerized through a planar K2Cl2 ring, with K-Cl distances of 3.1131 (8) and 3.319 (3) Å, and ring angles of 77.41 (2) and 102.60 (2)°. This ring is on an inversion center, and there is no supra-molecular coordination.

Project description:A new iron phosphate, calcium triiron(III) tris-(phosphate) oxide, CaFe(3)(PO(4))(3)O, has been isolated and shown to exhibit a three-dimensional structure built by FeO(6) octa-hedra, FeO(5) trigonal bipyramids and PO(4) tetra-hedra. The FeO(x) (x = 5, 6) polyhedra are linked through common corners and edges, forming [Fe(6)O(28)](?) chains with branches running along [010]. Adjacent chains are connected by the phosphate groups via common corners and edges, giving rise to a three-dimensional framework analogous to those of the previously reported SrFe(3)(PO(4))(3)O and Bi(0.4)Fe(3)(PO(4))(3)O structures, in which the Ca(2+) cations occupy a single symmetry non-equivalent cavity.

Project description:The title compounds, [Sn3(CH3)9(OH)2(H2O)2][Sn(CH3)3(CHO2)2] (1) and [Sn3(CH3)9(OH)2]Cl·H2O (2), are partially condensed products of hydrolysed tri-methyl-tin chloride. In the structures of 1 and 2, short cationic tris-tannatoxanes (C9H29O2Sn3) are bridged by a diformatotri-methyl-tin anion or a chloride anion, respectively. Hydrogen bridges are present and supposedly stabilize these structures against further polymerization to the known polymeric tri-methyl-tin hydroxide. Especially noteworthy is that the formate present in this structure was formed from atmospheric CO2.

Project description:The title compound, (C(4)H(12)N(2))(3)[PMo(12)O(40)] or (H(2)pip)(3)[PMo(12)O(40)] (pip is piperazine), was prepared under hydro-thermal conditions. The asymmetric unit contains one-sixth of a mixed-valent Mo(V,VI) pseudo-Keggin-type [PMo(12)O(40)](6-) anion and half a piperazinediium cation, (H(2)pip)(2+). The discrete Keggin-type [PMo(12)O(40)](6- )anion has site symmetry and the three (H(2)pip)(2+) cations each have site symmetry at the centres of the mol-ecules. The central P atom is on special position , which is a roto-inversion position and generates the disorder of the PO(4) tetra-hedron. Furthermore, six doubly bridging oxide groups are also disordered with an occupancy factor of 0.5 for each O atom. The anions and cations are linked by an extensive network of inter-molecular N-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds.
