DNA processing occurs in ciliates at autogamy and conjugation when new macronuclei are formed from micronuclei and old macronuclei degrade. Processing of micronuclear DNA consists of removal of certain internal sequences, chromosomal fragmentation, addition of new telomeres, and amplification.
