Whole-Exome Sequences from Imazighen and non-Imazghen from Tunisia

ABSTRACT: Study of high-coverage whole-exome sequences from Amazigh (Tamazight-speakers) and non-Amazigh individuals (Arab-speakers) from Tunisia to analyze the impact of demography in functional genomic variation in the complex demographic context of North Africa. Amazigh individuals were sampled in Chenini and Douiret, and non-Amazigh individuals were sampled in Tunis.

Project description:This dataset contains genome-wide array data from Amazigh (Chaoui and Mozabite) and non-Amazigh Algerian individuals. Chaoui were sampled in Oum El Bouaghi (n=47), Batna (n=46), and Khenchela (n=37). Mozabite were sampled in GhardaÃƒÂ¯a (n=14). Non-Imazighen were sampled in Algiers (n=34).

Genotyping of SNP array in individuals with San ancestry in southeastern Africa

Project description:Only a few scattered groups with oral traditions of Khoe-San hunter-gatherer ancestry remain in southeastern Africa. We investigate genomic variation of remaining individuals from two South African groups with oral histories connecting them to eastern San groups, i.e., the San from Lake Chrissie and the Duma San of the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg. Using ~2.2 million genetic markers, combined with comparative published datasets, we show that the Lake Chrissie San have genetic ancestry from both Khoe-San (likely the ||Xegwi San) and Bantu-speakers. Specifically, we found that the Lake Chrissie San are closely related to current southern San groups (i.e. the Karretjie People). Duma San individuals, on the other hand, were genetically similar to southeastern Bantu speakers from South Africa. Samples were genotyped on the Illumina Omni2.5M (HumanOmni25-8v1-2_A1) SNP chip. Results were analyzed using the software GenomeStudio 2011.1 and the data were exported to Plink format, aligned to Human Genome build version 37.

Generation and characterization of the Arctic charr multi-organ transcriptome

Project description:We report here the release of a multi organ transcriptome developped for the Arctic char Salvelinus alpinus. This reference set was obtained using the 454 GS FLX+ technology. A pool of one-year-old, immature offspring of wild, anadromous Arctic charr originating from Lake Varflusjoen, Svalbard (79oN), including both lean and fat individuals, and three-years-old mature offspring of charr originating from Lake Vårflusjøen, North-Norway (70oN) was sampled. In order to maximize the diversity of expressed transcripts, we sampled a variety of organs and tissues; the whole brain, gill and head kidney and pieces of the liver, gonad, abdominal fat and muscle.

Several of these highlight associations that contribute to a variety of disease conditions, but the question arises as to how the associations are affected by the environment. Here we address the robustness of eSNP associations to environmental geography and population structure in a comparison of 194 Arab and Amazigh individuals from a city and two villages in southern Morocco.
