ABSTRACT: Cell lines play an important role for studying tumor biology and novel therapeutic agents. We demonstrated that cell lines represent a useful and reliable in vitro system for studying basic mechanisms in lung cancer. Oncogenic Transformation from Actinic Cheilosis to Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Lip

Project description:Lip is an anatomical junction between skin and mucosa and the squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the most frequent lip cancers. Lip SCC is frequently developed from actinic cheilitis, presented as ulcerative lesions. However, changes in transcriptomes and tumor microenvironment driving oncogenic transformation from actinic cheilitis to lip SCC and determinants of differentiation of lip SCC are largely unknown. Establishment and RNA sequencing profiling of two canine mammary gland tumors cell lines

Project description:Purpose: the aim of this study was to characterize cell lines derived from canine mammary gland neoplasia which could be further used for basic and applied oncology research. Methods: samples of canine mammary carcinomas were taken to primary culture and two cell lines were well-established and described in terms of tumorigenesis, cell morphology and gene expression profile through RNA-seq analysis. Results: Both cell lines presented spindle-shape morphology and shown common malignancies features such as invasion potential and co-expression of cytoskeleton proteins. Also, we found dysregulations in gene expression patterns between the two cell cultures as well as compared to normal mammary gland tissue. Conclusion: transcriptomic profile of these cell lines contributed to the characterization of potential prognostic and predictive biomarkers and may enable the development of possible therapeutic molecular targets.

Establishment of a longitudinal growth chart corresponding to pubertal timing.

Project description:A standard growth chart is indispensable for evaluating an individual's growth. In Japan, the cross-sectional growth chart from fiscal year 2000 is most commonly used in the clinical setting. However, when using the current standard growth chart to assess growth during puberty, two problems are encountered. First, the individual pubertal height trajectory does not fit the cross-sectional growth chart because the pubertal height curve of individuals rises more sharply than that indicated by the cross-sectional growth chart. Second, variations in the timing of an individuals' growth spurt render it difficult or impossible to assess individual growth patterns using a single chart. To address these two issues, new growth charts were established using height measurements of 6744 boys and 6929 girls born between April 1975 and March 1976 in the Akita Prefecture. Individuals whose age at peak height velocity (agePHV) was 2 standard deviation greater or lesser than the mean were excluded, and the remaining participants were divided into three groups according to the first and third quartiles of agePHV. Finally, we established three longitudinal growth charts each for boys and girls based on a healthy Japanese population.
