Proteome analysis of brain vessels (the anterior cerebral artery and the middle cerebral artery) from 24-month-old Htra1 KO and wild type mice

ABSTRACT: CARASIL (cerebral autosomal recessive arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy) is a hereditary cerebral small-vessel disease caused by loss of function mutations of HTRA1, which is a serine protease with a variety of targets, including extracellular matrix proteins. We isolated pial arteries (the anterior cerebral artery and the middle cerebral artery) from Htra1-KO and wild type mice at 24 months of age.

ORGANISM(S): Mus Musculus (mouse)

Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) causes dementia and gait disturbance due to arteriopathy. Cerebral autosomal recessive arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CARASIL) is a hereditary form of CSVD caused by loss of high-temperature requirement A1 (HTRA1) serine protease activity. In CARASIL, arteriopathy causes intimal thickening, smooth muscle cell (SMC) degeneration, elastic lamina splitting, and vasodilation. The molecular mechanisms were proposed to involve the a  ...[more]
