Plant Microbe VOC Interaction

ABSTRACT: Here, we investigated the similarities and differences in the volatile profiles of plants and their holobionts. The VOC profiles of fruits, leaves, stems, and roots from seven plant species, including Turmeric seedlings (Curcuma longa), Artemisia capillaris, Euscaphis japonica, Panax ginseng, Clerodendrum trichotomum, Pyracantha koidzumii, and Japanese cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa), as well as the VOCs of culturable microbial fractions characterized via GCMS-based metabolomics approaches

An Integrated Biochemical, Proteomics, and Metabolomics Approach for Supporting Medicinal Value of Panax ginseng Fruits (GC-MS assay)

Project description:Panax ginseng roots are well known for their medicinal properties and have been used in Korean and Chinese traditional medicines for 1000s of years. However, the medicinal value of P. ginseng fruits remain poorly characterized. Using gas chromatography-time of flight mass spectrometry (GC-TOF MS), 66 metabolites including amino acids, sugars, organic acids, phenolic acids, phytosterols, tocopherols, and policosanols were identified and quantified. Some of these are well known medicinal compounds and were not previously identified in ginseng. Interestingly, the concentration of almost all metabolites was higher in the Chunpoong and Gumpoong cultivars. Parallel comparison of the four cultivars also revealed higher amounts of the medicinal metabolites in Chunpoong and Gumpoong cultivars. Taken together, our results demonstrate that ginseng fruits are a rich source of medicinal compounds with potential beneficial health effects.

Genome-Wide Transcript Profiling During Soybean Seed Development and Throughout the Soybean Life Cycle

Project description:We report the genome-wide transcriptome of soybean seeds across several stages of seed development and the entire life cycle using Illumina high-throughput sequencing technology. Specifically, we profiled whole seeds containing globular-stage, heart-stage, cotyledon-stage, and early maturation-stage embryos. We also profiled dry soybean seeds, and vegetative and reproductive tissues including leaves, roots, stems, seedlings, and floral buds. Illumina sequencing of transcripts from whole seeds at five stages of seed development (globular, heart, cotyledon, early-maturation, dry), and vegetative (leaves, roots, stems, seedlings) and reproductive (floral buds) tissues.

Cucumber plants of the ‘Jinyan No.4’ cultivar were reared in growth chambers at 28 ± 1 °C with a photoperiod of 16 h light/8 h dark and light intensity of 400 μmol m−2 s−1. The roots, leaves, stems, female flower buds (approximately 3 d before anthesis), male flower buds (approximately 1.0 cm in length), and fruits (10 d after pollination) were collected from flowering plants for tissue expression analysis.

Project description:Clade A PP2C genes in different organs and responding to stresses were screened using qPCR. The BjuACTINs were regarded as house keeping gene.To analyze the gene expression patterns of clade A BjuPP2Cs genes under biotic stress, 14-day-old seedlings were treated with P. brassicae liquid (OD600=0.07) for 0, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 days; to analyze the gene expression patterns of clade A BjuPP2Cs genes under abiotic stresses, 5-day-old seedlings were treated with 50 μM ABA, 100 mM NaCl and 4℃ treatment for 3 h.
