Study of mRNA blueprint of Kharchia Local under salt stress

Project description:Kharchia local is an Indian tall landrace wheat cultivar. It is native to sodic-saline soils of Kharchia tehsil of the Pali district of Rajasthan, and is a line developed from selections from farmer's fields. It is the most salt tolerant wheat genotype found in India. No systematic study has been carried out in this direction so far. The gaps in understanding of the mechanism underlying salt tolerance limit our ability to improve the salt tolerance in other crop plants. Transcriptome analysis of Kharchia Local under salt stress will provide the insight into the genes involved in salinity tolerance.

Project description:The experiment was designed to test the interactions of Spartina alterniflora, its microbiome, and the interaction of the plant-microbe relationship with oil from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill (DWH). Total RNA was extracted from leaf and root microbiome of S. alterniflora in soils that were oiled in DWH oil spill with or without added oil, as well as those grown in unoiled soil with or without added oil. The work in its entirety characterizes the transport, fate and catabolic activities of bacterial communities in petroleum-polluted soils and within plant tissues.

Project description:The miRNA contained in the total RNA extracted from Medicago truncatula seedlings (72 hours) that had been treated with solutions mimicking saline and alkaline soils was subjected to miRNA deep sequencing. Sequencing revealed that 876 miRNAs including 664 known miRNAs and 212 potential novel miRNAs were present in all the libraries.
