ABSTRACT: In the title salt, C(6)H(16)N(+)·C(5)HCl(3)NO(-), the cation links to the anion, which is almost planar, through an N-H?O hydrogen bond. Inter-molecular hydrogen bonds link two cations and two anions into a centrosymmetric cluster. The atoms involved in the hydrogen bonding form a planar octa-gonal arrangement in the crystal structure.

Project description:The title molecular salt, C(6)H(16)N(+)·CH(3)SO(3) (-), has been determined at 150?K. Two diisopropyl-ammonium cations (dipH) and two anions form N-H?O hydrogen-bonded cyclic dimers lying around centers of symmetry. Only two of the three O atoms of the methane-sulfonate anion are involved in hydrogen bonding, resulting in slightly longer S-O bond lengths. The title structure represents an example of a sulfonate anion that is part of a hydrogen-bonding R(4) (4)(12) graph-set motif, which is well known for related dipH acetates. Additionally, the Raman and the IR spectroscopic data for the title compound are presented.

Project description:In the structure of the title complex, [Cs(C6H2Cl3N2O2)(H2O)] n , the caesium salt of the commercial herbicide picloram, the Cs(+) cation lies on a crystallographic mirror plane, which also contains the coordinating water mol-ecule and all non-H atoms of the 4-amino-3,5,6-trichloro-picolinate anion except the carboxyl-ate O-atom donors. The irregular CsCl4O5 coordination polyhedron comprises chlorine donors from the ortho-related ring substituents of the picloramate ligand in a bidentate chelate mode, with a third chlorine bridging [Cs-Cl range 3.6052?(11)-3.7151?(11)?Å] as well as a bidentate chelate carboxyl-ate group giving sheets extending parallel to (010). A three-dimensional coordination polymer structure is generated through the carboxyl-ate group, which also bridges the sheets down [010]. Within the structure, there are intra-unit water O-H?Ocarboxyl-ate and amine N-H?Npyridine hydrogen-bonding inter-actions.

The hydrogensulfate ion, with a single S-O(H) bond of 1.563 (2) Å, forms a short O-H⋯O hydrogen bond [O⋯O = 2.609 (2) Å] to the sulfate ion. The hydrogensulfate ion accepts two hydrogen bonds from two cations, whereas the sulfate ion, as an acceptor, binds to four cations. The [SnCl(6)](2-) anion undergoes a slight distortion from octa-hedral symmetry as the result of the formation of four unforked charge-supported N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds. The hydrogen bonds between the cations and anions form layers perpendicular to [101]. These layers are built by 24-membered rings which can be classified with an R(8) (8)(24) graph-set descriptor. According to this hydrogen-bonding motif, the title compound is isostructural with (C(6)H(16)N)(2)[IrCl(6)].
