Bis(S-benzyl-isothio-uronium) tetra-chloridozincate(II).

ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, (C(8)H(11)N(2)S)(2)[ZnCl(4)], contains two S-benzyl-isothio-uronium cations which differ in the C-C-S-C torsion angle [165.3?(2) and 81.9?(2)°] and a tetrahedral tetra-chloridozincate anion. The crystal structure is stabilized by N-H?Cl, C-H?Cl and C-H?S inter-actions.

Project description:In the title compound, (C(4)H(12)N(2))[ZnCl(4)], the Zn atom adopts a slightly distorted tetra-hedral geometry. In the crystal, the dication and dianion inter-act by way of N-H⋯Cl and N-H⋯(Cl,Cl) hydrogen bonds to result in a layered network propagating in (010). The hydrogen-bonding network is unbalanced, with three Cl atoms accepting two hydrogen bonds each and one Cl atom not accepting any hydrogen bonds: the latter shows the shortest Zn-Cl bond length. The crystal studied was found to be an inversion twin.

The crystal packing is influenced by cation-to-anion N-H?Cl and C-H?Cl hydrogen bonds. The [ZnCl(4)](2-) anions have a distorded tetra-hedral geometry. Inter-molecular ?-? stacking inter-actions are present between neighboring benzene rings, thia-zole and benzene rings and neighboring thia-zole rings [centroid-centroid distances = 3.711?(2), 3.554?(1), 3.536?(2) and 3.572?(1)?Å].

Project description:In the title compound, (C(7)H(11)N(2))(2)[ZnCl(4)], [ZnCl(4)](2-) anions and 4-(dimethyl-amino)-pyridinium cations are held together by various inter-molecular inter-actions including Coulombic attraction, hydrogen bonding and π-π stacking inter-actions. Three Cl atoms of the [ZnCl(4)](2-) tetra-hedron act as acceptors in N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds. The hydrogen bonds, both of which are bifurcated, lead to the formation of a three-dimensional network. Within the network, inter-molecular π-π stacking inter-actions with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.5911 (7) Å arrange the 4-(dimethyl-amino)-pyridinium cations into anti-parallel dimers.

Project description:The title compound, (C(2)H(8)N)(C(5)H(12)NO)[ZnCl(4)], was synthesized by hydro-thermal reaction of ZnCl(2) with 4-methyl-morpholine in a dimethyl-formamide solution. The asymmetric unit is composed of half a [ZnCl(4)](2-) anion, half a 4-methyl-morpholin-4-ium cation and half a dimethyl-ammonium cation, all located on mirror planes parallel to ac. All the amine H atoms are involved in inter-molecular N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds, building up an infinite chain parallel to the c axis.
