A novel zinc(II) complex with the ligand 2,2',2''-(1,4,7-triazanonane-1,4,7-triyl)triacetate (NOTA).

ABSTRACT: The zinc(II) complex with NOTA [2,2',2''-(1,4,7-triazanonane-1,4,7-triyl)triacetate] has previously been synthesized and studied in solution, but was not isolated. The corresponding title Zn(II) complex penta-sodium(I) bis-{[2,2',2''-(1,4,7-triazanonane-1,4,7-triyl)triacetato]zinc(II)} tris-(perchlorate) methanol solvate, Na(5)[Zn(C(12)H(18)N(3)O(6))](2)(ClO(4))(3)·CH(3)OH, was crystallized as a sodium perchlorate double salt in methano-l solution. The asymmetric unit contains two independent [Zn(NOTA)](-) complex anion entities, five sodium cations, three perchlorate anions and a methanol solvent mol-ecule. The two Zn(II) cations exhibit a distorted trigonal-prismatic N(3)O(3) coordination with a bifacial arrangement of the donor atoms. Neither the methanol solvent mol-ecule nor the perchlorate anions appear to be coordinated to the Zn centres. The crystal structure shows a layer arrangement parallel to (001) generated by inter-actions between the [Zn(NOTA)](-) units, the Na(+) cations, two ClO(4) (-) units and the methanole mol-ecule, leading to an overall layer composition of [Na(5)[Zn(C(12)H(18)N(3)O(6))](2)(ClO(4))(2) (.)CH(3)OH](+). The third ClO(4) anion is isolated and situated between the layers without any significant inter-actions.

Manganese (II) Complex of 1,4,7-Triazacyclononane-1,4,7-Triacetic Acid (NOTA) as a Hepatobiliary MRI Contrast Agent.

Project description:Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is increasingly used to diagnose focal and diffuse liver disorders. Despite their enhanced efficacy, liver-targeted gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) raise safety concerns owing to the release of toxic Gd3+ ions. A π-conjugated macrocyclic chelate, Mn-NOTA-NP, was designed and synthesized as a non-gadolinium alternative for liver-specific MRI. Mn-NOTA-NP exhibits an r1 relaxivity of 3.57 mM-1 s-1 in water and 9.01 mM-1 s-1 in saline containing human serum albumin at 3 T, which is significantly greater than the clinically utilized Mn2+-based hepatobiliary drug, Mn-DPDP (1.50 mM-1 s-1), and comparable with that of GBCAs. Furthermore, the in vivo biodistribution and MRI enhancement patterns of Mn-NOTA-NP were similar to those of the Gd3+-based hepatobiliary agent, Gd-DTPA-EOB. Additionally, a 0.05 mmol/kg dose of Mn-NOTA-NP facilitated high-sensitivity tumor detection with tumor signal enhancement in a liver tumor model. Ligand-docking simulations further indicated that Mn-NOTA-NP differed from other hepatobiliary agents in their interactions with several transporter systems. Collectively, we demonstrated that Mn-NOTA-NP could be a new liver-specific MRI contrast agent.

The Zn(II)-1,4,7-Trimethyl-1,4,7-Triazacyclononane Complex: A Monometallic Catalyst Active in Two Protonation States.

Project description:In this paper, the unusual reactivity of the complex Zn(II)-1,4,7-trimethyl-1, 4,7-triazacyclononane (2) in the transesterification of the RNA-model substrate, HPNP (3), is reported. The dependence of the reactivity (k2) with pH does not follow the characteristic bell-shape profile typical of complexes with penta-coordinated metal centers. By the contrary, two reactive species, featuring different deprotonation states, are present, with the tri-aqua complex being more reactive than the mono-hydroxy-diaqua one. Apparently, such a difference arises from the total complex charge which plays an important role in the stability of the transition state/s of the reactions. Relevant insight on the reaction mechanism were hence obtained.

Project description:In the title compound, [RuCl(C(10)H(8)N(2))(C(6)H(12)S(3))]NO(3)·H(2)O or [RuCl(bpy)([9]aneS(3))]NO(3)·H(2)O, ([9]aneS(3) is 1,4,7-tri-thia-cyclo-nonane and bpy is 2,2'-bipyridine), the Ru(II) cation has a slightly distorted octa-hedral environment composed of three facially coordinated S atoms from ([9]aneS(3)), two N atoms from bpy and a chloride anion. The nitrate counter-ion and the water mol-ecule of crystallization are engaged in O-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions, leading to a supra-molecular chain running parallel to the c axis.

Project description:The title compound, [RuBr(C(10)H(8)N(2))(C(6)H(12)S(3))]PF(6) or [RuBr(bpy)([9]aneS(3))]PF(6) ([9]aneS(3) is 1,4,7-trithia-cyclo-nonane and bpy is 2,2'-bipyridine), exhibits a very similar octahedral coordination geometry for the Ru(2+) atom to that of its [RuCl(bpy)([9]aneS(3))](+) analogue, with only the chloride ligand being substituted by a bromide ligand. The presence of a PF(6) (-) anion (alongside with the coordinated bromide ligand) promotes the existence of an extensive network of weak C-H⋯X (X = F, Br) inter-actions.

Project description:In the title complex, [ZnCl(2)(C(12)H(12)N(2)O)], the Zn(II) atom is coordinated in a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry by two Cl atoms, and one O atom and two N atoms from the 2,2'-(oxydimethyl-ene)dipyridine ligand. In the complex, the two pyridine rings make a dihedral angle of 15.44 (14)°. There is a weak inter-molecular π-π stacking inter-action between pyridine rings; the centroid-centroid distance is 3.8079 (17) Å.

Crystal structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis of a zinc xanthate complex containing the 2,2'-bi-pyridine ligand.

Project description:In the title compound, (2,2'-bi-pyridine-κ2 N,N')bis-(2-meth-oxy-ethyl xanthato-κS)zinc(II), [Zn(C4H7O2S2)2(C10H8N2)], the ZnII ion is coordinated to two N atoms of the 2,2'-bi-pyridine ligand and two S atoms from two 2-meth-oxy-ethyl xanthate ligands. The ZnII ion lies on a crystallographic twofold rotation axis and has distorted tetra-hedral coordination geometry. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming supramolecular chains propagating along the a-axis direction. Weak intra-molecular C-H⋯S hydrogen bonds are also observed. The inter-molecular contacts in the crystal were further analysed using Hirshfield surface analysis, which indicates that the most significant contacts are H⋯H (36.3%), followed by S⋯H/H⋯S (24.7%), C⋯H/H⋯C (15.1%), O⋯H/H⋯O (14.4%), N⋯H/H⋯N (4.1%) and C⋯C (2.9%).

Project description:In the title complex, [Zn(C(7)H(5)O(3))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)], the Zn(II) ion is coordinated by two 4-hydroxy-benzoate anions, one 2,2'-bipyridine mol-ecule and one water mol-ecule and displays a distorted octa-hedral geometry. One Zn-O bond [2.5300?(15)?Å] is much longer than the others in the mol-ecule. In the crystal structure, the face-to-face separation of 3.547?(9)?Å suggests no ?-? stacking between parallel bipyridine ring systems, and an extensive O-H?O hydrogen-bonding network between the coordinated water molecule, the phenol group and carboxylate O atoms is present.
