Project description:In the title compound, C(21)H(25)NO(2), the piperidine ring adopts a twisted boat conformation characterized by puckering parameters ? = 89.5?(1) and ? = 257.5?(2)°. The phenyl groups are located in equatorial and axial positions on the central piperidine ring, while the methyl group is in an equatorial position. The dihedral angle between the phenyl rings is 49.8?(1)°. An intra-molecular C-H?O inter-action occurs. The crystal structure features weak inter-molecular C-H?O inter-actions and a stabilizing inter-molecular C-H?? contact involving the axial phenyl ring.

The dihedral angle formed between the chloro-benzene ring and the flanking phenyl rings are 74.91?(18) and 47.86?(17)°. The chloro substituent is anti to the piperidine N atom. In the crystal, centrosymmetrically related mol-ecules aggregate via ?-? inter-actions occurring between chloro-benzene rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.778?(2)?Å] and these are linked into linear supra-molecular chains along the a axis by C-H?? inter-actions occurring between the phenyl rings.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(32)H(23)NO(2), comprises two crystallographically independent mol-ecules. In both mol-ecules, the geometries about the N atoms deviate significantly from the ideal trigonal-planar geometry with bond-angle sums about the N atom of 359.32° in one mol-ecule and 359.86° in the other. The O atoms of the carbonyl groups are deviated significantly from the central benzene rings by 0.6747 (14) and -1.1223 (13) Å in one molecule and -0.6230 (13) and 1.1559 (12) Å in the other. In the diphenyl-aniline units, the terminal phenyl rings are almost orthogonal to each other, with dihedral angles of 89.79 (9) and 89.76 (9)°. The crystal structure features C-H⋯O and C-H⋯π inter-actions.

Mol-ecules are connected into centrosymmetric dimers via C-H⋯O inter-actions and these associate into layers via C-H⋯O-S contacts. Further C-H⋯O inter-actions involving both the carbonyl and sulfonyl O atoms consolidate the crystal packing by providing connections between the layers.
