Two-dimensional dysprosium(III) triiodate(V) dihydrate, Dy(IO(3))(3)(H(2)O)·H(2)O.

ABSTRACT: During our research into novel nonlinear optical materials using 1,10-phenanthroline as an appending ligand on lanthanide iodates, crystals of an infinite layered Dy(III) iodate compound, Dy(IO(3))(3)(H(2)O)·H(2)O, were obtained under hydro-thermal conditions. The Dy(III) cation has a dicapped trigonal prismatic coordination environment consisting of one water O atom and seven other O atoms from seven iodate anions. These iodate anions bridge the Dy(III) cations into a two-dimensional structure. Through O-H?O hydrogen bonds, all of these layers stack along [111], giving a supra-molecular channel, with the solvent water mol-ecules filling the voids.

Two-dimensional dysprosium(III) coordination polymer: Structure, single-molecule magnetic behavior, proton conduction, and luminescence.

Project description:A new dysprosium (III) coordination polymer [Dy(Hm-dobdc) (H2O)2]·H2O (Dy-CP), was hydrothermal synthesized based on 4,6-dioxido-1,3-benzenedicarboxylate (H4m-dobdc) ligand containing carboxyl and phenolic hydroxyl groups. The Dy(III) center adopts an octa-coordinated [DyO8] geometry, which can be described as a twisted square antiprism (D 4d symmetry). Neighboring Dy(III) ions are interconnected by deprotonated Hm-dobdc3- ligand to form the two-dimensional infinite layers, which are further linked to generate three-dimensional structure through abundant hydrogen bonds mediated primarily by coordinated and lattice H2O molecules. Magnetic studies demonstrates that Dy-CP shows the field-induced slow relaxation of magnetization and the energy barrier U eff/k B and relaxation time τ 0 are 35.3 K and 1.31 × 10-6 s, respectively. Following the vehicular mechanism, Dy-CP displays proton conductivity with σ equal to 7.77 × 10-8 S cm-1 at 353 K and 30%RH. Moreover, luminescence spectra reveal that H4m-dobdc can sensitize characteristic luminescence of Dy(III) ion. Herein, good magnetism, proton conduction, and luminescence are simultaneously achieved, and thus, Dy-CP is a potential multifunctional coordination polymer material.

The metallacryptates of 1 and 2 are the three-dimensional analogues of metallacrowns as the metallacryptates contain a metal-nitro-gen-oxygen cyclic repeat unit throughout the complexes. For 1 the building block of the two-dimensional sheet is comprised of only one type of metallacryptate, which is connected to four neighboring metallacryptates via four sodium-DMF linkages. In 2, the building block is a dimeric unit of two metallacryptates. Each dimeric metallacryptate unit is connected to four other dimeric units via six sodium-DMF linkages. The two metallacryptates of each dimeric unit can be considered enanti-omers of each other. In both 1 and 2, chirality is imparted to the metallacryptate due to the Λ and Δ propeller configurations of the four octa-hedral aluminium ions of the metallacryptand shell.

Octa-deca-bromidobis(dicarbido)deca-dysprosium, [Dy(10)Br(18)(C(2))(2)].

Project description:Single crystals of [Dy(10)Br(18)(C(2))(2)] were obtained during the reaction of DyBr(3) with dysprosium metal and graphite in a sealed tantalum container. In the crystal structure, the Dy atoms form dimers of edge-sharing octa-hedra, each encapsulating a C(2) unit. The metal atoms are surrounded by Br atoms above the cluster edges and vertices, respectively. The dimers are connected to each other by Br atoms, leading to a three-dimensional network. [Dy(10)Br(18)(C(2))(2)] is isotypic with its iodido analogue [Dy(10)I(18)(C(2))(2)].

Poly[?-5-ammonio-isophthalato-aqua-?-oxalato-dysprosium(III)].

Project description:The title complex, [Dy(C(8)H(6)NO(4))(C(2)O(4))(H(2)O)](n), is a dysprosium coordination polymer with mixed anions and was obtained under hydrothermal conditions. In the structure, the oxalate and 5-amino-isophthalate ligands link the dysprosium ions, building up a two-dimensional metal-organic framework parallel to the (10) plane. These sheets are further connected through O-H?O, N-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure.

N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds help to stabilize the crystal structure. The H atom involved in an N-H?N hydrogen bond is disordered around a twofold rotation axis.

Project description:The 4-sulfophthalate trianion in the polymeric title complex, {[Dy(C(8)H(3)O(7)S)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)(2)]·2H(2)O}(n), bridges three water/phenanthroline-coordinated Dy(III) atoms to form a three-dimensional network architecture. The metal atom is further chelated by a carboxyl-ate group and is covalently bonded to a monodentate carboxyl-ate group and to a monodentate sulfonate group in a distorted square-anti-prismatic geometry. The coordinating and the solvent water mol-ecules are hydrogen bonded to the network. In the crystal, one solvent water mol-ecule is disordered over two positions [major component = 59?(3)%].

Slow Magnetic Relaxation of Dy Adatoms with In-Plane Magnetic Anisotropy on a Two-Dimensional Electron Gas.

Project description:We report on the magnetic properties of Dy atoms adsorbed on the (001) surface of SrTiO3. X-ray magnetic circular dichroism reveals slow relaxation of the Dy magnetization on a time scale of about 800 s at 2.5 K, unusually associated with an easy-plane magnetic anisotropy. We attribute these properties to Dy atoms occupying hollow adsorption sites on the TiO2-terminated surface. Conversely, Ho atoms adsorbed on the same surface show paramagnetic behavior down to 2.5 K. With the help of atomic multiplet simulations and first-principles calculations, we establish that Dy populates also the top-O and bridge sites on the coexisting SrO-terminated surface. A simple magnetization relaxation model predicts these two sites to have an even longer magnetization lifetime than the hollow site. Moreover, the adsorption of Dy on the insulating SrTiO3 crystal leads, regardless of the surface termination, to the formation of a spin-polarized two-dimensional electron gas of Ti 3dxy character, together with an antiferromagnetic Dy-Ti coupling. Our findings support the feasibility of tuning the magnetic properties of the rare-earth atoms by acting on the substrate electronic gas with electric fields.

Luminescence and Magnetic Properties of Two Three-Dimensional Terbium and Dysprosium MOFs Based on Azobenzene-4,4'-Dicarboxylic Linker.

Project description:We report the in situ formation of two novel metal-organic frameworks based on terbium and dysprosium ions using azobenzene-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid (H₂abd) as ligand, synthesized by soft hydrothermal routes. Both materials show isostructural three-dimensional networks with channels along a axis and display intense photoluminescence properties in the solid state at room temperature. Textural properties of the metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been fully characterized although no appreciable porosity was obtained. Magnetic properties of these materials were studied, highlighting the dysprosium material displays slightly frequency-dependent out of phase signals when measured under zero external field and under an applied field of 1000 Oe.

Poly[[diaqua-hexa-?-cyanido-cerium(III)ferrate(III)] dihydrate].

Project description:In the structure of the title complex, {[CeFe(CN)(6)(H(2)O)(2)]·2H(2)O}(n), the Ce(III) and Fe(III) atoms exhibit square anti-prismatic [CeN(6)(H(2)O)(2)] (site symmetry m2m) and octahedral [FeC(6)] (site symmetry 2/m) coordination geometries, respectively. The metal atoms are linked alternately through the cyanide groups, forming a three-dimensional framework in which the {Ce(2)Fe(2)(CN)(4)} puckered square unit is the basic building block. The crystal packing is enforced by O-H?O and O-H?N hydrogen bonds, including the uncoordinated water molecule which is located on a mirror plane.
