A new aqua-manganese(II) oxalate phosphate, Mn(C(2)O(4))Mn(3)(PO(4))(2)(H(2)O)(2).

ABSTRACT: The title salt, diaquatetra-manganese(II) oxalate bis[ortho-phos-phate(V)], Mn(4)(C(2)O(4))(PO(4))(2)(H(2)O)(2), was synthesized hydro-thermally and displays a three-dimensional framework structure. The asymmetric unit consists of two different Mn(II) centers, half of an oxalate anion, a phosphate group and a coordinated water mol-ecule. A crystallographic inversion center is located at the mid-point of the oxalate C-C bond. The distorted octa-hedral MnO(6) and the tetra-gonal pyramidal MnO(5) centers are linked through bridging oxalate and phosphate groups. The water mol-ecule also has a weaker bonding contact to the five-coordinate Mn atom, which consequently exhibits a distorted octa-hedral geometry and also bridges the independent Mn atoms. The water mol-ecule is a donor for intra- and inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The title compound, Mn(4)(H(2)O)(4)[Ge(OH)(2)(HPO(4))(2)(PO(4))(2)], was synthesized by the solvothermal method. Its crystal structure is isotypic with the iron and cobalt analogues [Huang et al. (2012 ?). Inorg. Chem.51, 3316-3323]. In the crystal structure, the framework is built from undulating manganese phosphate sheets parallel to (010) inter-connected by GeO(6) octa-hedra (at the inversion center), resulting in a three-dimensional network with eight-membered ring channels into which all the protons point. The undulating manganese phosphate sheet consists of zigzag manganese octa-hedral chains along [10-1], built from MnO(4)(OH)(OH(2)) octa-hedra and MnO(5)(OH(2)) octa-hedra by sharing their trans or skew edges, which are inter-connected by PO(3)(OH) and PO(4) tetra-hedra via corner-sharing. The crystal structure features extensive O-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions.

Crystal structure and spectroscopic analysis of a new oxalate-bridged Mn(II) compound: catena-poly[guanidinium [[aqua-chlorido-manganese(II)]-μ2-oxalato-κ(4) O (1),O (2):O (1'),O (2')] monohydrate].

Project description:As part of our studies on the synthesis and the characterization of oxalate-bridged compounds M-ox-M (ox = oxalate dianion and M = transition metal ion), we report the crystal structure of a new oxalate-bridged Mn(II) phase, {(CH6N3)[Mn(C2O4)Cl(H2O)]·H2O} n . In the compound, a succession of Mn(II) ions (situated on inversion centers) adopting a distorted octa-hedral coordination and bridged by oxalate ligands forms parallel zigzag chains running along the c axis. These chains are inter-connected through O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions to form anionic layers parallel to (010). Individual layers are held together via strong hydrogen bonds involving the guanidinium cations (N-H⋯O and N-H⋯Cl) and the disordered non-coordinating water mol-ecule (O-H⋯O and O-H⋯Cl), as well as by guanidinium π-π stacking. The structural data were confirmed by IR and UV-Visible spectroscopic analysis.

Manganese(ii) phosphate nanosheet assembly with native out-of-plane Mn centres for electrocatalytic water oxidation.

Project description:Nature selects Mn-clusters as catalysts for water oxidation, which is a significant reaction in photosynthesis. Thus, it is of critical importance to develop Mn-based superstructures and study their catalytic details for water-splitting-based renewable energy research. Herein, we report a manganese(ii) phosphate nanosheet assembly with asymmetric out-of-plane Mn centers from the transformation of amine-intercalated nanoplates for efficient electrocatalytic water oxidation in neutral aqueous solutions. From structural and computational studies, it is found that the native out-of-plane Mn centers with terminal water ligands are accessible and preferential oxidation sites to form active intermediates for water oxidation. In addition, the asymmetry can stabilize the key MnIII intermediate, as demonstrated by electrochemical and spectrometric studies. This study delivers a convenient strategy to prepare unique nanosheet assemblies for electrocatalysis and fundamental understandings of oxygen evolution chemistry.

Project description:The title compound, (C(6)H(8)N(4))[Mn(H(2)O)(6)](SO(4))(2), was obtained by cocrystallization of 2,2'-biimidazolium sulfate and bis-(tetra-butyl-ammonium) tetra-chlorido-manganate(II). The asymmetric unit contains one isolated (SO(4))(2-) anion, one half of an octa-hedral [Mn(H(2)O)(6)](2+) dication and one half of a 2,2'-biimidazolium dication, each of which lies on an inversion centre. Mol-ecules are connected by a three-dimensional N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen-bond network.

Lithium manganese(II) diaqua-boro-phosphate monohydrate.

Project description:The title compound, LiMn(H(2)O)(2)[BP(2)O(8)]·H(2)O, is built up of an open framework of helical borophosphate ribbons inter-connected by MnO(4)(H(2)O)(2) octa-hedra, forming one-dimensional channels along [001] occupied by Li(+) cations and disordered H(2)O mol-ecules (site occupancy 0.5). The Li cations reside in two partially occupied sites [occupancies = 0.42 (3) and 0.289 (13)] near the helices.

Project description:In the title complex, [Mn(C(9)H(4)N(2)O(4))(H(2)O)(2)](n), the Mn(II) atom is in a distorted octa-hedral coordination completed by one N atom from one 1H-benzimidazole-5,6-dicarboxyl-ate ligand, two O atoms from two different 1H-benzimidazole-5,6-dicarboxyl-ate ligands, and three O atoms from three water mol-ecules. Two bridging water mol-ecules and two bridging carboxyl-ate groups from a 1H-benzimidazole-5,6-dicarboxyl-ate ligand connect two Mn(II) ions into a dimeric structure. In the crystal, extensive inter-molecular O-H?O, N-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonding forms a three-dimensional network.

Project description:In the polymeric title compound, {[Mn(2)(SO(4))(2)(C(30)H(36)N(6))(H(2)O)(2)]·6H(2)O}(n), the two Mn(2+) ions are bridged by two sulfate anions to form dinuclear complexes, and these dinuclear species are linked by the hexa-dentate ligand N,N,N',N'-tetra-kis(2-pyridylmeth-yl)hexane-1,6-diamine (tphn), forming a one-dimensional chain structure running in the [101] direction. The repeat unit of the polymer, Mn(2)(SO(4))(2)(H(2)O)(2)(tphn), is disposed about a twofold axis passing through the centre of the dinuclear unit. The coordination geometry around the Mn centre is distorted octa-hedral. Two methylene groups are each disordered equally over two positions.

Project description:The solid solution, sodium [iron(III)/manganese(II)] tris-(orthophosphate), Na₃.₄Mn₀.₄Fe₁.₆(PO₄)₃, was obtained using a flux method. Its crystal structure is related to that of NASICON-type compounds. The [(Mn/Fe)₂(PO₄)₃] framework is built up from an (Mn/Fe)O₆octa-hedron (site symmetry 3.), with a mixed Mn/Fe occupancy, and a PO₄ tetra-hedron (site symmetry .2). The Na⁺ cations are distributed over two partially occupied sites in the cavities of the framework. One Na⁺ cation (site symmetry -3.) is surrounded by six O atoms, whereas the other Na⁺ cation (site symmetry .2) is surrounded by eight O atoms.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title salt, [Mn(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)(4)][Mn(2)(C(8)H(3)O(7)S)(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(4)]·4H(2)O, consists of mononuclear manganese(II) cations, dinuclear manganate(II) dianions and uncoordinated water mol-ecules. The dianion is located about an inversion center; the Mn(II) atom is coordinated by a 2,2'-bipyridine ligand, a sulfonatoisophthalate group, a water mol-ecule along with two bridging water mol-ecules in an octa-hedral geometry. The cation lies on a twofold rotation axis; the Mn(II) atom is coordinated by four water mol-ecules and a chelating 2,2'-bipyridine ligand in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. A partially overlapped arrangement between the bipyridine ligands and the aromatic ring of the sulfoisophthalate group of adjacent anions is observed; the distance (3.357 Å) indicates π-π stacking. Hydrogen bonds, with the water mol-ecules serving as hydrogen-bond donors, lead to a three-dimensional network architecture.

Project description:In the title compound, [Mn(C(10)H(7)N(2)O(2))(2)(H(2)O)(4)], the Mn(II) atom, lying on an inversion center, has an octa-hedral environment with four coordinated water mol-ecules in the equatorial plane and two N atoms from two 4-(imidazol-1-yl)benzoate ligands at the axial sites. The complex mol-ecules are connected into a three-dimensional network by extensive hydrogen bonds between the water mol-ecules and the carboxyl-ate O atoms.
