ABSTRACT: The title compound (also know as azorellanone), C(20)H(32)O(2), is built up from three fused carbocycles, one five-membered ring and two six-membered rings. The five membered-ring has an envelope conformation, whereas the six-membered rings have a distorted half-chair and a twist-boat conformation. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by O-H?O inter-actions into zigzag chains with graph-set notation C(8) along [010]. The absolute configuration was assigned on the basis of earlier chemical studies.

Project description:The title compound, C10H12Cl3NTe, crystallizes with two crystallographically independent mol-ecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit. In each case, the coordination around the Te atom is distorted square-pyramidal, with the equatorial plane composed of the three Cl atoms and the C atom of the pyridinium ring. The Te atom is displaced from the mean-square plane by 0.1926 (7) and 0.1981 (8) Å, in mol-ecules A and B, respectivly, away from the apical C atom. The bond lengths from the Te atom to the two Cl atoms arranged trans to each other [2.5009 (7)/2.5145 (7) and 2.5184 (7)/2.5220 (8) Å in mol-ecules A and B, respectivly] are substan-ti-ally shorter than the third Te-Cl distance [2.8786 (7) and 2.8763 (7) Å in mol-ecules A and B, respectivly]. The 1,3-tellurazole ring is almost planar (r.m.s. deviations of 0.042 and 0.045 Å in mol-ecules A and B, respectivly). The cyclopentane rings in both molecules A and B adopt envelope conformations with the carbon atom opposed to the (Te)C-C(N) bond as the flap. In the crystal, mol-ecules form centrosymmetric 2 + 2 associates via Te⋯Cl inter-actions [3.3993 (7) and 3.2030 (7) Å]. As a result of these secondary inter-actions, the Te atom attains a strongly distorted 5 + 1 octa-hedral environment. Further, the 2 + 2 associates are bound by weak C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional framework.

Project description:The title compound, C(33)H(34)O(4)Si, is a dioxasilepine compound, an effective chiral dopant for the determination of high helical twisting powers in liquid crystals. Its structure consists of a five-membered dioxolo ring fused to a seven-membered dioxasilepine ring which contains two sets of phenyl rings in a twisted butterfly shape attached to the two Csp(3) atoms in the ring opposite each other. Two methyl groups are attached to the Si atom in the ring and two additional methyl groups are attached to the Csp(3) atom in the dioxolo ring (one of which is disordered) and which lies in an envelope pattern. The dihedral angles between the mean planes of the phenyl ring pairs are 85.9?(2) and 83.5?(1)°. The dihedral angles between the mean planes of the dioxolo ring and the two pairs of butterfly shaped phenyl rings are 46.2?(1), 67.7?(1), 35.6?(7) and 83.5?(1)°.

The three C atoms of a di-meth-oxy-ethane ring and dioxolane ring attached with two methyl groups are disordered over two sets of sites in 0.66?(2):0.34?(2) and 0.62?(2):0.38?(2) ratios, respectively. The major and minor components of the ace-naphthyl-ene ring are essentially planar (r.m.s. deviations = 0.0254 and 0.0436?Å, respectively). The major and minor components of the pyrrolidine ring adopt C-envelope conformations with C atoms displaced by 0.492?(11) and 0.595?(7)?Å from the remaining ring atoms. One of the dioxolane rings is disordered with its major component in an envelope conformation [C displaced by 0.511?(11)?Å] and the minor fraction is more or less planar with an r.m.s. deviation of 0.070?Å. The other dioxolane ring is in an envelope conformation, with a C atom displaced by 0.438?(3)?Å from the remainder of the ring atoms. The crystal packing features C-H?O inter-actions, which generate C(9) chains.

Project description:The title hydrate, C17H28O2·H2O, was synthesized in order to determine the relative configuration of the tetra-cyclic framework. The fused 5,6,7-tricarbocyclic core exhibits an entire cis-annulation, featuring a 1,4-cis-relation of the angular methyl groups in the six-membered ring. The oxa bridge of the ep-oxy-cyclo-heptane moiety is oriented towards the concave face of the boat-shaped mol-ecule, whereas the angular methyl groups are directed towards the convex face. The asymmetric unit of the crystal contains two nearly identical formula units, which are related via a pseudo-centre of symmetry. The structure could be solved in the space groups I-4 and I41/a. The refinement in the acentric space group, however, gave significantly better results and these are used in this paper. O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds are observed between the organic mol-ecules, between the organic mol-ecules and the water mol-ecules, and between the water mol-ecules, forming a chain along the c-axis direction.
