ABSTRACT: In the title compound, (C(5)H(14)N(2))[CuCl(4)], the copper(II) ion has a slightly tetra-hedrally distorted square-planar coordin-ation geometry and the diprotonated piperazine ring adopts a chair conformation. In the crystal structure, cations and anions are linked by inter-molecular N-H?Cl hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional network.

Project description:The title compound, (C(5)H(14)N(2))[CuCl(4)], was synthesized by hydro-thermal reaction of CuCl(2) with 1-methyl-piperazine in an HCl/water solution. Both amine N atoms are protonated. The piperazine ring adopts a chair conformation. The Cu-Cl distances in the tetrahedral anion are in the range 2.2360?(7)-2.2732?(7)?Å. In the crystal, moderately strong and weak inter-molecular N-H?Cl hydrogen bonds link the anion and cation units into an infinite two-dimensional network parallel to the ab plane.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, (C(6)H(9)N(2))(2)[CuCl(4)], consists of one cation and one half-anion, bis-ected by a twofold rotation axis through the metal center. The anion exhibits a geometry that is inter-mediate between a T(d) and D(4h) arrangement about the Cu atom. The crystal structure contains chains of cations alternating with stacks of anions. The cationic groups inter-act via offset face-to-face π-π stacking, forming chains running along the c axis. The anion stacks are parallel to the cation chains, with no significant inter- nor intra-stack Cl⋯Cl inter-actions. There are several anion-cation hydrogen-bonding inter-actions of the (N-H)(pyridine)⋯Cl and (N-H)(amino)⋯Cl types, connecting the chains of cations to the stacks of anions. Both the N-H⋯Cl and π-π stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances 3.61 (8) and 3.92 (2) Å] contribute to the formation of a three-dimensional supra-molecular architecture.

Project description:In the title compound, (C(4)H(12)N(2))[ZnCl(4)], the Zn atom adopts a slightly distorted tetra-hedral geometry. In the crystal, the dication and dianion inter-act by way of N-H?Cl and N-H?(Cl,Cl) hydrogen bonds to result in a layered network propagating in (010). The hydrogen-bonding network is unbalanced, with three Cl atoms accepting two hydrogen bonds each and one Cl atom not accepting any hydrogen bonds: the latter shows the shortest Zn-Cl bond length. The crystal studied was found to be an inversion twin.

These are bonded together via N-H?Cl hydrogen bonds from the 4-fluoro-anilinium chains, which are almost perpendicular to the layers. The CuCl(4) dianions have two short Cu-Cl bonds [2.2657?(15) and 2.2884?(13)?Å] and two longer bonds [2.8868?(15)?Å], giving highly Jahn-Teller-distorted CuCl(6) octa-hedra. The Cu atoms are situated on crystallographic centers of inversion.
