Catena-Poly[[diaqua-cadmium(II)]-?-4,4'-sulfonyl-dibenzoato-?O:O].

ABSTRACT: The title compound, [Cd(C(14)H(8)O(6)S)(H(2)O)(2)](n), comprises zigzag chains parallel to [111] of alternating [Cd(H(2)O)(2)](2+) and sulfonyl-dibenzoate units, with the Cd and S atoms lying on crystallographic twofold axes. The central Cd(II) ion is in a slightly distorted octa-hedral geometry, coordinated by six O atoms from two carboxyl-ate groups and two water O atoms. An intra-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bond occurs. In the crystal, inter-molecular hydrogen bonds between carboxyl-ate O atoms and coordinated water mol-ecules in adjacent chains lead to the formation of a three-dimensional network structure. The compound is isotypic with the Zn analog.

Project description:In the title compound, [Mn(C(14)H(8)O(6)S)(C(10)H(8)N(2))](n), the Mn(II) ion is coordinated by four O atoms from three 4,4'-sulfonyl-dibenzoate (sdba) ligands and two N atoms from one 2,2'-bipyridine (2,2'-bipy) ligand in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The manganese atoms are alternately bridged either by two sdba ligands, with an Mn?Mn separation of 12.284?(1)?Å, or by two carboxyl-ate groups from two sdba ligands, with an Mn?Mn separation of 4.064?(1)?Å, thus producing polymeric chains propagated in [101]. Weak inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds and ?-? inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance of 3.730?(3)?Å between the aromatic rings of neighbouring polymeric chains] further stabilize the crystal packing.
